Suggestion: Currently, the number of posts a user has made is displayed with each and every post. Some would suggest that this information is not very useful, indeed that in can detract from the quality of the discussion by identifying users along arbitrary lines. (If one wanted to know wether the contributor is a new member, the registration information would still be displayed.) The post count reinforces a "classic" forum feel that detracts from the imange of the discussion forums.

The info would still be displayed in a users full profile (when you click on the username).

No! Please don't do that!
Why would you do that?
I love to skip over members profiles due bumping into their interesting posts. It happends the most with members who didn't post much (those who did- I've probably saw their profile already), and it happends quite alot when I'm hanging around in the older posts. It is also employing to follow the number of posts...
I don't see any logical reason with that suggestion. I simply love to have the possibility to know that- why hide?
Vain in my opinion, won't contribute to anything...

I’m not sure about this one, Caliban. To be able to glance quickly at someone’s number of posts can be helpful. We can’t assume that people always gauge quality in direct correspondence with quantity. Sometimes the combined information, to someone reading another person’s posts, of post quality and current post quantity helps one to form a judgment such as whether the person has no life or is worth being mined more deeply.

As one who has sponsored students for full membership (three so far), I find it helpful to glance at the number of posts. I want to help those who've been here for a while and have actively participated on a regular basis. I vote we keep it.

I suppose given the objective, the group and joining date information should be up for debate too.

Caliban, sorry for aiming my earlier response directly at you. It was before I realized these aren't necessarily your suggestions or representing your own opinions.

Status quo.
And an aside: Display the Bible quotation.

I suppose given the objective, the group and joining date information should be up for debate too.
--------------------
Corinthians 15:26 -- Prometheus

In regard to the mention of number of posts of a member, I find it enjoyable to read the number of posts I have contributed to the forum, and also the date of my registration here.

Likewise I find it useful to know the number of posts fellow members here have contributed and their dates of registration.

An aside.

To Prometheus, if you are around, and everyone else, please display the quotation of the Bible, not just its location in the Bible.

And also be complete in your location of the Bible to enable people to really find the quotation correctly and fast.

I guess you know that there is no such location in the Bible, namely, Corinthians 15:26. It is rather:

1 Corinthians 15:26.

And this is the verse referred to, "The last enemy to be destroyed is death."

I don't know... I kind of liked it. It made me look it up myself and I was pleasantly surprised. ;)

Prometheus, why would you want to remove the information in the sidebar? It's not cluttering it up that much as far as I can tell. And certainly the "group" is the most important, so everyone can see who are the advisors, navigators, editors, etc.

Also, as I noted earlier, I single out basic members who are students for full membership based partly on the information listed in the sidebar if someone catches my eye or they seem intelligent, and I see they are a basic member who's participated regularly.

The number of posts is a very useful indicator for many people - it carries a lot more weight than a title, for example. Thus we should keep it.

Susma,

"The last enemy to be destroyed is death."

I believe our only enemy is the boorishness. All the wars, why? who's fault? Those who fanatically trying to stop immortality from being received, or those who simply laugh on it, what's specify them? Those who don't want to learn (I am not talking about learning in school which it is possibly hard sometimes and they come with a negative attitude, but those who just wanna learn NOTHING!), just take a look around- our only enemy in my opinion is the boorishness... death is not an enemy that's a weird life style (lol, death style actually), we are trying to improve, that's all.

Joel,

if someone catches my eye or they seem intelligent, and I see they are a basic member who's participated regularly.

Heh, well thank you again than.

calbian,
I am truly sorry for going a little out of topic, I know how much you hate that, I just couldn't resist...

Yours truthfully
