Hello. I am a student at a university, and I am hoping that supplements will help with my test preformance. I generally know how to do everything, but I am slow and error prone to the extent that I am not pleased with my preformance.

I have been interested in nootropics for a while, but I have not got around to ordering powders because I dont want to spend the time and money (capping machines, scale, etc.). I will probably order some piracetam eventually.

Today I bought 30 100mg alpha lipoic acid capsules and 30 250mg acetyl L-carnitine at k-mart. I am hoping that I can get the desired effects by only taking supplements on test days, and taking nothing on days without tests. (30 capsules will not last long, and I have always been skeptical about taking things every day because I am afraid they might have negative long term effects)

I weigh 120 pounds. What would be an appriopriate dosage of these two supplements, and how many hours before a test should I take them? Also, is there anything else I need to take with them? I know that some supplements deplete other important vitamins.

It's a sort of banana coming from Asia. So not just a normal banana.

Maybe somebody can elaborate on that ............

test days : ALCAR + ALPHA-GPC i think

ALA doesn't have any "feelable" effects, with the very important exception of lowering your blood sugar -- which could be disastrous in a test situation! This is a bad choice for your objective.

Piracetam + AlphaGPC + Hydergine would be my ideal stack. Some students swear by nicotine gum.

I forgot to mention that L-Tyrosine is useful for alertness. You need to experiment with dosage before an actual testing situation, but between 0.5-2.0 g right before you start would definitely have a noticeable effect. You can find it at any GNC or health food store.

I probably should have recommended aniracetam either instead or concurrently with piracetam, as the research on short-term effects (which is what you are after) is stronger for aniracetam. This is definitely not a "K-Mart" supplement, of course.

I too am a university student. I would HIGHLY recommend rhodiola rosea. In one book I read (I think it was called Natural Energy) it said that in a study of rhodiola administered to proofreaders, errors decreased by 88 PER-CENT!

Also, hydergine/piracatem I find to be invaluable.

I take these currently:

Omega 3 FISH OIL (4000mg 2x/day) EPA + DHA 1000mg 2x day

SAN Dr. Feel Good Multivitamin/Mineral (4 2x/day)

acetyl l-carnetine (500-1500mg 1-3x/day)

Choline (500mg 2x/day w/ piracetam) additional 500mg in multi-vitamin, total 1500mg

melatonin (2.5mg before bed)

Vitamineral Green (1 heaping tbsp 1x/day)

Ashwagandha (5-600mg 2x/day, at night and in the morning)
Causes drowsiness during the day when I consume around 1g

Piracetam (2 tsp 2x/day) about 9g total

ALONG WITH THESE::
Before a test, I've had hilarious success with about 1000mg of acetyl-carnetine, a little caffeine, and 2-4mg NICOTINE GUM. Both nicotine and ALCAR mimic the action of acetylcholine, and the act of CHEWING GUM has been shown time and time again to improve cognition. Chewing is a little less interesting than substance use, but the action of chewing combined with nicotine has been very successful for me. That being said, you probably won't have much success with nicotine gum unless you are a non-smoker, and non-nicotine user altogether. Being an ex smoker, I can feel a difference in focus and memory with nicotine gum, but when I was a smoker, I couldn't tell much of a difference. Hope this helps!

also, I've experimented with using vinpocetine only on days where I have exams. This has been somewhat successful, but I dont have enough evidence to support it. Any thoughts on vinpocetine?
