I don't know much about Resveratrol. I know it's a CR-mimetic, and that it has shown to increase the longevity of yeast, worms, flies, and mice, and that it's been shown to have CR-like effects on obese humans. Other than that, I know none of the science behind it, and I don't understand the jargon.

What are the best books out there on the subject, that can explain what Resveratrol does in an easy to understand manner, but also relys on good evidence?

Thank you.

Also, given everything I've read in this forum, why is resveratrol still considered an "unproven" method of life extension?

Hi there, Citizen! I've found two introductory books about resveratrol: The Longevity Factor, and Resveratrol: Unleashing the Benefits of Red Wine.

The Longevity Factor seems very good (I have it, but have only been able to leaf through so far). It provides some context on the broader field of anti-aging, and explains the (putative) mechanisms of resveratrol in a fairly accessible way, without dumbing it down too much. It's three years old, so remember more recent research may have revised or superceded that which was available at that time. But this book would give you a solid foundation for engaging in further research and discussion.

Beth Giesler's Resveratrol was published only a year and a half ago, but is very simplistic. The level of science is consistent with what you'd find in a general health magazine, and doesn't go very far into mechanisms or the state of research. This is the book I would give an older parent, or someone who gets turned off by more involved science. If you have even a wikipedia-skimming understanding of the health benefits of red wine, and know how to do a bit of research into supplement products, skip to Longevity Factor.

I think if we put together a decent faq based on the better posts in this forum over the past five years, we'd have a better resource than any book.

Seconding an FAQ, it would be very helpful.
