I need to restock CoQ10, and have been considering retrying Ubiquinol again, and found it listed on Costco just now..

120 caps, 100mg, for $32. It's the cheapest I've ever seen it at that dosage. It's even cheaper than Swanson's.

It also appears to be the

Active Q, Tishcon, variety, which may absorb a bit better than ubiquinol already does. The only thing odd I noticed was no mention of Kaneka in the product listing. It may in fact be on the label, but I haven't purchased it yet.

If anyone sees anything out of the ordinary as far as ingredients go, let me know. I believe most of the ingredients are just emulsifiers and fat.

Tishcon uses Kaneka's ubiquinol.

Thanks, I figured it was, but found it strange that it wasn't on the label.

I ended up getting it at my warehouse, where it was a little cheaper, < $30. The only thing I dislike is the size of the pills... a little large, especially for just 100mg.

One other thing I noticed was that the ubiquinol itself is a dark color (broke open a gel) -- it's sort of dark red. I am guessing (or hoping) it's due to the limonene or emulsifiers, not oxidation. But I recall Jarrow's ubiquinol being white-ish/yellow in color, and regular CoQ10 (Healthy Origins) is a bright orange. I thought ubiquinol, so long as it's not in oxidized form, should be white/yellow, not dark in color?

I never dissolved ubiquinol personally, but I have dissolved regular CoQ10 in oils before and the color is different. If you make a suspension of CoQ10 in oil it tends to look yellow and is usually lightened in color by the opaque suspending agents (typically something like beeswax) but if you dissolve CoQ10 it tends to look reddish orange in color. Most likely the Tishcon formula just looks darker because it is supposed to be dissolved in the oils. Here is a link to Tishcon's patent for their stabilized Ubiquinol that gives details http://www.patentgen...nt/6740338.html

Thanks for the info. I expect the color is fine, and as you say, because it has been dissolved. I just know when comparing to Jarrow, the color is quite different. Regular CoQ10 I've seen tends to be yellow/orange, ubiquinol is white-ish. So I guess I was just surprised to see a dark reddish color for this ubiquinol.

I can probably get my cardio to test my serum levels over the summer, which is an easy way to test it.

Any red that you are seeing in the capsules is probably from the annatto extract.

Also to note that the 100 mg stated on the back looks to include the fillers & additives, so it may not be 100 mg of ubiquinol. Although it could be; and I really hope it is, cause I just bought some! ;-)

The weight is supposed to refer to the active ingredient. Occasionally you'll get the weight of a "proprietary mixture".
