So this presents the interesting prospect of people testing themselves at home, potentially making available a much wider sample pool for the scientific community to draw upon.

What happens if gene array chips reach the home? Imagine if simple, reliable microarray chips could be mass-distributed and interfaced with home PCs and internet. These could be used to more thoroughly catalogue the distribution of certain genetic traits in the wider population.
