A scientist who got wind of our budding community experiment shared a link to a standard protocol/epistemology for animal experiments. I am not sure how much of it was applicable to our project, but I thought I would share it in case anyone thought we should modify our process. We are kind-of going out of the box with a community project, we are not a standard lab, so I would expect a few things to be different.
