I saw another post about this but I thought I'd let people know - not sure if this just a "cyber monday" thing, and it seems to be relatively unannounced, but if you reload the site several times across different browsers/trying incognito mode etc. you can get the price for as low as 50 dollars. I was able to get it on Chrome the first try, but I found this link later:

There is a "secret" cyber monday sale right now. where you can get the price as low as 49 dollars if you keep reloading the site, trying in different browsers, incognito, etc. I got it at 49 dollars when I opened chrome, but I found this link on another forum which should guarantee it..I didn't buy it that way but notice at the bottom of the page it says "49 dollars" in the cart. Enjoy!

https://www.23andme....ffer/49NOV2012/

A note to everyone who is concerned about the gimicky nature of the 23andme website - they do offer the raw data which can be analyzed by outside programs, like this one: http://snpedia.com/i...php/Promethease

I'm hoping I can get some insight into possible issues with drug metabolization, methylation, maybe stuff indicating issues with neurotransmitter imbalances - for example a few days ago found this post: http://www.socialanx...-enzyme-182919/

A lot of it is speculation but at least I can maybe try to hone in on things that should be more plausibly causing any issues I'm having.

Noooo I thought I got the best deal at $69! But as I said in the other thread it's a "pricing experiment" (I guess the cost of their gene chip went down and they want to see what the sweet spot is for profitability now). That link still comes up as $299 for me, but you can also try deleting cookies and going through proxies.

Doesn't work. Tried it on a freshly set up Ubuntu with Chromium browser too.

It says 299 at the top, but on that link scroll down and you'll see that it's 49 dollars in the cart.

We recognize that for many people, price is a real obstacle so we are focused on bringing down our price point whenever we can. 23andMe regularly tests various pricing models to provide customers with options that work well for them and for our business.

Individuals who visited our store yesterday were allocated randomly into a test or non-test price.

Additional information from my followup email to 23andme Customer Service so that you can get any notification of any upcoming sales. Details below:

Thank you for contacting the 23andMe Team again. We are not currently offering any promotional pricing. The code you provided, 49NOV2012, was never a valid discount code. Throughout the day yesterday, visitors to our website were randomly selected to receive one of several different price options so that we could better understand what demand for our product would be at these different prices. No discount code was needed.

It may be that when some of the individuals reporting this price visited our store, they were part of this pricing model test. We are unable to extend to you a price that differs from the one you currently see when you visit our store.

Though we can't provide a timeline, we hope to offer promotions in the future. Sales or promotions may be announced directly on the site or Community, or via email or social media. You can sign up to be notified of certain sales via email or social media.

Email Notification of Sales

If you have an account, go to Account > Settings > Notifications and ensure that you are opted-in to receive sale notifications. If you do not yet have an account with us, set up a demo account at https://www.23andme.com/user/signup/ and make sure you are opted into our Sale Notification List.

Social Media Notification of Sales

Follow us on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/23andMe and Twitter at http://twitter.com/23andme to receive notification of our sales through these channels.

23andMe is dedicated to making exploring your own DNA accessible and affordable. We recognize that for many folks, price is a real obstacle so we are focused on bringing down our price point whenever we can.

We hope this is helpful for you.

Yeah, the deal is dead now. People on Facebook seem really mad about how this was handled, and it was confusing for all.

She was right though that "49NOV2012" wasn't the code - following that link previously put one 50 dollar kit in your cart to check out with, or sometimes you got it when just visiting the page.

I'm honestly not too happy about how they did this "deal" either, even though I was lucky enough to get it. I had a previously bad customer service response from that company, where I asked about something specific and was given a very obviously copy and pasted answer, which I was unhappy about. I wrote them back and said that as a potential customer looking to pay their normal price of 300 dollars, that kind of canned response wasn't acceptable. I wouldn't have paid much more for the service!

As an alternative this site is having a sale: http://www.familytreedna.com/

Wow, this pisses me off. I held off from buying earlier this year when I received a decent amount of money, as I heard they usually have sales around this time of year. I visited the page multiple times and searched to see if they had a sale during black friday and cyber monday. After not finding anything I assumed the one year I wanted to buy it, they decided not to have a sale. I guess I have to wait another year now because of this crap, I really can't afford the 300 dollar standard price in my current situation.

Yup, I held off too.

If they'd simply announced the sale I could have my results and they could have some of my money. Now with these pricing antics it's lose/lose.

Sign up for their email notifications of sales per my last message above, and when they do announce another sale, we should all know. Of course, you'll probably get non-sale email advertisements in the interim -- but they don't send out emails too often from my experience.

I'm already a user of 23andme personally, and I find it the best available site of this type, along with the fact you can download your raw data. I was just wanting to pick up some extra test kits for family.

I think it's more than a sale, I think they're going to have it be that price going on in the future...Not totally sure though, their site was down earlier.

They must have been flooded with saliva over the holidays - they're sending out emails stating it will be 6 weeks before you can expect results from your sample.
