I noticed that user reviews are very important when it comes to choosing nootropics, but there are currently no sites that offer users the ability to share their experiences with certain nootropics, like Piracetam for example. I took Piracetam because I thought it would help treat my depression, but in fact it made it worse and I started having suicidal thoughts and negative thoughts all around. I kept convincing myself that it was not the piracetam that's causing it but my environment and I took it for 6 months straight before stopping. If only I knew that piracetam and choline worsened depression I would have taken it.

So anyway, on my nootropic site that I'm currently working, I made a page solely for piracetam reviews. I hope you find this useful. There's also a noopept review page in case anyone is interested in that.

Please let me know if you like it or want something changed. I like feedback. :)

This only occurs within a small portion of piracetam and choline users. Specifically, it seems to be the choline source that is most commonly responsible, and in this regard, some choline sources seem to be more likely to cause this side-effect than others (alpha-GPC, I've heard, is the most common culprit). Personally, I've never experienced any of these side-effects with any combination of the racetams and various choline sources...and I have been prone to depression at times in my life.

In a community such as this, with new potential nootropic enthusiasts dropping by and reading a few excerpts before leaving, we must be careful to avoid sweeping statements that poise minimal anecdotal evidence as definite fact. Obviously, someone should not read one post on a forum and take it for granted, but many people do, and in any case, every bit of anecdotal evidence adds up to form a picture.

That said, the site looks great, and does not seem to be 'pushing' anything. I tip my hat :)

I wonder if the people who are prone to depression induced by choline already have a high level of acetylcholine in their brains. Or maybe they just have low levels of dopamine and supplementing with choline drops their levels below a line where depression starts to set in.

I'm not sure, but the reason I went into nootropics was to increase my motivation, drive, ambition and focus. What point is there to having great memory if it's not put to use? I just feel like someone sucked out 90% of the life in me.

Thank you for the positive comment on my site. I really, really appreciate it. Yes, I don't like sites that push products onto you, especially not drugs or supplements that you'll be putting in your body. I just made the site because I wanted to help others.

I started it in September, 2012 and really, I should have finished covering all the racetams and amnio acids by now. There's very little content. Every time I try to start a new article on a nootropic that I haven't covered, I work on it for about 5 minutes before feeling drained of energy and focus. I then space out and my productivity drops to 0.

Really I'm starting to think I have a combination of dysthmia and ADHD-PI. I've had ADHD-PI symptoms before my dysthmia started. But I'm worried about amphetamines and their safety. I've read conflicting reports about their safety and I'm just not sure if the benefits outweigh the cons.

I like the site so far, should be a good resource once you get more content up. :) Another site which has an excellent collection of reviews and experiences is Erowid. This is usually the first place I visit when I'm considering trying a new nootropic.

Have you tried oxiracetam? I've found it to be quite useful in promoting motivation, with no crash or jittery effects.

I have not tried oxiracetam, but it's very expensive and because I don't have a job, I have no income so I really can't afford it.

I've heard good things about oxiracetam though; it increases focus and concentration, memory, energy and motivation. It might act on the dopamine receptors or at least influence dopamine levels in the brain. Though, I haven't found any studies that suggest it alters dopaminergic activity.
