I would like to know who it is I'm interacting with. What someone does for a living, or what someone is studying to become, is a big part of that person's life. Some of our members are students or scientists or lawyers.

I'm involved in Television/Film production, but most of you probably don't know that. At least one member that I know of is in law school, but most probably don't know that either. [huh]

What do you think? Should we be able to provide this info in our profiles?

Or is this information way too personal to be put online?

Its not like we would be required to enter our occupation if we don't wish to.

Yes, I found it to be ok for as long as it's not must... And it won't be so my vote: positive [thumb]

P.s. I'd also add the option to fill in the friggin' gender!

I vote for as much information as possible. As long as it is optional. It will give the foundation a tool to show any diversity in support and contributions.

Dropdown menu's with options is the best way to generate statistics. It will also make it possible to gather a list of people in any specific category. Any dropdown menu should also be complemented with a text input field for options that are not included. If people are missing an option, there should be a thread where they can request that option to be added.

Any tool that makes the Institute more effective is good as long as personal opt-out is available. IMO.

How do I describe my occupation?

I'm a stay-at-home mom, but now that my child is older and enjoys preschool, I really ought to get a job.

So I'm unemployed. Well, no, I'm unemployable.

I guess I don't want to talk about it in too much detail since it is kind of personal. Not that I mind with most of y'all (mostly seem like a nice bunch), but you never know who is lurking out there.

Wraith, I admire what you do and the commitment you've made to your child. Taking care of a preschooler is a full-time job. The time when he or she's not home is just a little time to yourself to keep you from going insane. ;)

And Lightowl, I like the dropdown menu idea. I've always wanted to get a sense of who and where the members of ImmInst are located. Some statistics on the growth and reach would be nice to see. (Especially since we have people from all over the world posting here.)
