There is so called moon diet. You're supposed to fast once every week or every 14 days for whole day, only water or natural juices allowed. http://www.free-fad-.../moon-diet.html

ummm... it is critical that it be based on the phases of the moon eh...

I don't know if that would work for me because I turn into a werewolf on all the full moons and it's impossible to control my appetite. :))

Is there any scientific evidence that fasting once a week is good?

Elrond, once a week will make you weak.
Eat in the normal quantity everyday.
Alright then once in 2 weeks do that craziness action...
You are doing a LOT of sports man, you need energy.
You should eat proportionally to your sports dosage.
You already eat healthy, you have to have some energy!

Yours truthfully
~Infernity

P.s. here is a good song you may like Elrond (the lyrics at least- till I get how to upload the friggin' file):

Of wolf and Man by Metallica

Off through the new day's mist I run
Out from the new day's mist I have come
I hunt
therefore I am
harvest the land
taking of the fallen lamb

Off through the new day's mist I run
Out from the new day's mist I have come
we shift
pulsing with the earth
company we keep
roaming the land while you sleep

shape shift nose to the wind
shape shift feeling I've been
move swift all senses clean
earth's gift back to the meaning of life

bright is the moon high in starlight
chill in the air cold as steel tonight
we shift
call of the wild
fear in your eyes
it's later than you realized

shape shift nose to the wind
shape shift feeling I've been
move swift all senses clean
earth's gift back to the meaning of life

(guitar & drum solo)

I feel a change
back to a better day
(shape shift)hair stands on the back of my neck
(shape shift)in wildness is the preservation of the world

so seek the wolf in thyself

shape shift nose to the wind
shape shift feeling I've been
move swift all senses clean
earth's gift back to the meaning...

Of wolf, and man yeah

There's not been any evidence at all that fasting is good for you. It operates under the idea of blood not being used for digestion so the 'extra blood' is used to clean the toxins from your system...

Similar to all these toxin-cleaning herbs and shit you hear about, have there been any studies or even explanations of HOW these things would cleanse you of toxins?

Nope!

So I call bull for now, I just think we need enough in our diet to keep our body and it's systems working properly with all essentiel nutrients, proteins for rebuilding, an energy source, and enough water to keep it working smoothly (not sure how much that is though)

Egads! I wouldn't use this website for anything! This woman has to be the dumbest and most dangerous person on the Internet promoting these ridiculous diets as workable. Even when she's thin she's still fat...

Only if the insulin is already insensitive due to frequent consumption of high quantities of high Glycemic Index foods.

This is not a reason to fast. Guess again.

Are you suggesting that ALL the benefits of IF would be achieved through just eating less glycemic indexed carbs, or just the increase in insulin sensitivity? Also, what are you basing your statement on?

The effects of IF have been quite drastic, I not aware of nearly as dramatic effects of just eating less insulin spiking carbs.

As a short primer to IF:
Studies suggest that IF might work as effectively as CR in extending lifespan and enchaning health (and most likely through the same mechanism), however WITHOUT the usual downsides of CR, for example severely reduced libido and body weight. In the IF studies so far, there has been one day of fasting followed by free access to food on the next day, but I don't know if this exact "periodization" would be optimal health wise for humans.

The overall calories in IF remain (nearly) as high as ad libitum, which is probably the reason for the less severe side effects compared to CR and contrary to the usual phenomenom in CR where life span increase is proportional to the severity of restriction (up to a point until it becomes lethal, which about 60% reduction in rodents and probably much less for humans). Actually, anecdotal evidence in humans might suggest it actually increases libido and physical performance in addition to health and life extension benefits. Many feel IF might be the best thing that one could for life extension at the moment (other than maybe donating to MPrize but let's not go there), but of course this is still somewhat of an open questions and especially the exact details for optimal ratio of fasting to eating remain unanswered.

There has been discussion on IF at Avant Labs for few years know, you might want to check that out as a more thorough primer.
