Sun exposure may be good for you afterall...

Our bodies get Vitamin D from the sun, but as dermatologist Richard Weller suggests, sunlight may confer another surprising benefit too. New research by his team shows that nitric oxide, a chemical transmitter stored in huge reserves in the skin, can be released by UV light, to great benefit for blood pressure and the cardiovascular system.

Short story even shorter: in the last years people are avoiding sun and supplement vitamin D, because it was widely believed that vitamin D is the only good thing you get from UV exposure. However, new studies have found that UV exposure may release nitric oxide which is stored in the skin and thus lower blood pressure. So, now the question is - how to get all the benefits of sun exposure without the negatives of it?

I sometimes sunbathe at noon (max UVB) for brief periods (10-15min per side) without sunscreen. I'm taking some supplements that are reported to reduce burning, for example SodZYME with GliSODin from LEF.

Same here. The sun feels great to be in and probably prevents certain bacteria and fungus from overgrowth along with other benefits. As long as your diet is good and you don't go sunbathe on the beach for hours you should be good. Another win for moderation and against reductionist thinking. When I go to the beach I apply sunscreen when I get there so I get a good dose of sun. Even that is multifaceted though, your other spectrum exposure will be very high and stress and exercise will reduce your defenses temporarily. Think of that poor truck driver who had daily exposure to UVA and whatever other limited spectrum for most of his life from a window on one side. Ugh. 8 hours or so of UV-A a day... They aren't wrong in using the zinc oxide and hats/clothing though to prevent total overexposure either. We know there are lots of shitty sunscreens that cause free radical damage.

Let's be serious! Being in the sun a few day's a year doesn't do much.

I mean, some avoid the sun completely which I think is nut's. I live in a country with only 2 months of any real summer. A few days of sunbathing wont do harm, actually I think it would be a benefit if the skin doesn't get burned and has time to adapt without there being any evident burns or too much exposure. Besides it makes you look good!

Too much of anything is always incorrect. Golden middle is always good. And we can't always hide from the sun

I'd like you have a moderation of lead then, or a moderation of anthrax.

Honestly, I don't know how this fallacy came about. Probably via the confirmation bias.
