The member reviews are a good thing, but from what I've seen and observed, and from my own invested research, many of the doctors deny risks or dangers associated with certain procedures. If anything, realself is geared more as a marketing site for plastic surgeons rather than an honest tool for potential patients. The only way that one can discover the risks associated with every cosmetic procedure is through member reviews IF they even decide to give one. Botched procedures are an every day occurance even under the supposed best of hands, yet the stigma of a botched procedure is more or less directed to the patients (or victims) rather than the plastic surgeons, simply because most people do not understand that procedures can simply be a lucky hit or an unlucky miss, as opposed to choosing the wrong doctor.

So, I would say, take precautions before jumping into sites like Realself as there is a lot of marketing going on in both ethical and unethical ways, and consider that every procedure has its risk.

I totally agree with you. People's review (including the side effect photos) and treatment ratings make this site valuable. There is a lot of interesting information. For example, 100% of this site users who did Sleeve Gastrectomy were happy about this. Or some very expensive and painful procedures are rated very low. Love aggregated data
