I thought that magnesium can interfere with calcium absorption.

Hence, why do some calcium supplements contain magnesium? Are there any benefits to having the two together, which are largely unstated?

Somehow they competes for the same Vitamin D3 induced transport but, after you substantially increase magnesium concentration Ca absorption falls.
so in my opinion as long as you don't take too much magnesium with the calcium in my mind ~ 500-800mg Ca with 100-200mg Mg they should absorb well.
I don't think that there is a big benefit if you take them together, maybe it is easier to take one tablet than two...
Usually I take Ca in the morning and magnesium for sleep...
