Hello Friends,
Just discovered this unique agent called Validol. Apparently it's made in Russia. Has anyone tried it yet? The active ingredient is methylbutanoic acid AKA isovaleric acid (a componet of cigarette smoke) .
They claim on the web-site it causes release of endorphins...would it be addictive? a controlled substance?
would it be safe to take with Prozac or another antidepressant? will it cause oral cancer with repeated use?
It's hard to get information about these substances from the web-sites that sell them as they say they don't offer any medical advice.
Would like to give it a try....

Doesn't appear to be a controlled substance. Anything that releases endorphins could cause addiction, but the main reason cigarettes are addictive is the combination of MAOIs and Nicotine.

No. Nicotine is an MAOI.

Validol produces mild sedative effect, and vascular dilation. It has been used routinely for years in Russia for cardiac chest pain mainly. It seems to be quite safe.

Lampscooter is right. Nicotine alone is NOT ADDICTIVE. Only when nicotine is combined with MAOIs that are naturally found in tobacco/cigarrettes does addiction take hold. This result is well known. http://www.ncbi.nlm....pubmed/16177026

Check the citations of this study for many other studies that look at this relationship.

In fact nicotine, paradoxically, leads to upregulation of the ACh nicotinic receptor. The way addiction happens with nicotine is really quite fascinating, it is rather complicated so I will leave to you to look into it.

Yeah, I have some. Slight sedative and can make you a bit drowsy. Might help for insomnia. Seems pretty benign.

Probably wouldn't go out of my way to find it, but it's not bad to have around...

I received a reply from a guy on another forum who has taken validol....he said being as that I'm already taking antidepressants I probably wouldn't feel much effect from it.
However, I did find it for sale on a site for only $1.99 for 10 tablets so might try it anywway. Thanks for replying to my post. Cazorp

Got some Validol in the mail today...like another poster said they're like really nice mints! No other effects noticed--I believe they would make very good moth balls however...perhaps I'll try the Tenoten next

Validol is a Valerian derivate, so therefore can/could be the effects subtle
