Excellent, thanks for the detailed answer Siro. I have just two more questions; have you found the benefits to increase steadily over time or do you hit a plateau at some point? Could you neatly summarise in a few bulletpoints the most profound changes you have experienced thus far?

In relation to the possibility of the destruction, beyond the overcoming, of addictions, meditation has been found to be very successful in such scenarios. That was how I personally beat a several year addiction to various substances, without ever really trying to wait for the related circuits to atrophy. Although thinking about it, perhaps that simply allows one to orient and control ones mind with greater ease and in doing so negate the urge to feed the addiction, with the same amount of time required for the dysfunctional circuits to atrophy.

I think also that this is a good place to have the conversation about energy practices and the cultivation of energy, since that's what we seem to be talking about here. We needn't converge on a single set of practices and systems of understanding to the exclusion of any others, or bring in metaphysical woowoo through the backdoor. Since there are similar principles that seem to thread through all the various disciplines of energy cultivation it seems reasonable to assume that the benefits that apply to one will be more or less experienced in the others.

Here's a list of some of the purported benefits of Qi Gong if anyone is interested;

1. Well-being and improved health. Qigong emphasizes the whole body, whole system health. While it is true that qigong will often cure specific ills, this is not the primary reason for practice. It is not only a matter of adding years to your life, but life to your years.

2. Clear and tranquil mind. When the mind is at peace, the whole universe seems at peace. World peace begins with you; it is your responsibility to find a peaceful heart and mind. Then you can heal and transform others just through your presence. If you have a tranquil mind, you will make better decisions and have the skill to know when act and when to be still.

3. Deeper, more restorative sleep. Qigong will help you find the deep relaxation and mental quiet necessary for sleep.

4. Increased energy, including sexual vitality and fertility. Qigong people have more energy; it can reverse energy and restore youthfulness.

5. Comfortable warmth. Qigong is great for cold hands and feet. Circulation improves, and the body generates more internal warmth when it is cold.

6. Clear skin. The skin, like the intestines, is an organ of elimination. According to Chinese medicine, as your qigong improves, your body eliminates toxins, and the skin becomes clear.

7. Happy attitude. There is an old Tibetan saying, “You can tell a Yogi by his or her laugh.” Correct and moderate qigong practice usually creates an optimistic and joyous disposition.

8. More efficient metabolism. Digestion improves, and hair and nails grow more quickly.

9. Greater physiological control. This means that aspects of the body that were imbalanced or out of control begin to normalize, for example, breathing rate, heart rate, blood pressure, hormone levels, and states of chronic inflammation or depletion.

10. Bright eyes. The qigong master’s eyes are said to glow in the dark, like a cat’s. The eyes also appear bright because the spirit and soul are luminous and the heart is open.

11. Intuition and creativity. Intuition and creativity generate each other and come from the same source, an awakened brain and being, an ability to think with the gut, to feel with the mind.

12. Spiritual effects. Advancement in qigong is often accompanied by a variety of spiritual experiences. For example, synchronicity, meaningful coincidences, become more common. When the qi is abundant, clear, and flowing, the senses perceive and are permeated by a sweetness.

I can't really summarize in a few bullet points, the effects have been countless in number. I would not say there is a plateau that I have hit, but I do think it is possible to hit one, but it is also possible to avoid it. Here is why:

Think about what constitutes a plateau. It would mean a leveling off of the growing of mental abilities? Yeah? I have found that simply conserving your sexual energy will really only give you the energy TO GROW. If you don't have a conscious intent to grow in whatever mental qualities you desire, then why would you expect them to happen on their own? I have never hit a plateau because I am constantly keeping in my focus the mental abilities that I wish to develop. On a weekly basis I can identify obvious growths in my abilities that were not present the week before. From there, I simply imagine and intend on how I want the abilities to progress from the point I have reached... and I just keep moving forward. It seems the more I progress, the more I am able to progress in any given time period. Of course you have to have an idea of how you want to progress, but that is the entire point behind this. This is what is believed many masters of history did to develop expert skills in their various fields. Chess Masters, Mozart, Leonardo Da Vinci, etc, people of that nature. These people were not genius because of their DNA like people like to believe. Research into the lives of these amazing people will reveal their abilities came from countless days of working hard on their craft and abilities and constantly refining them, whether it be the creative aspects of them, the precision aspects, etc, all the like, everything that you can imagine can be cultivated with intent and persistent effort. The point of conserving sexual energy is that the more energy you have the more 'work' you are able to do, and the faster you are able to progress. There is a great book on some of these famous people and their techniques to becoming as expert as they did. Look up Mastery - By Robert Greene. Excellent book for anyone wishing to become amazing at any particular thing in their lives, whether some mental skill, some technical skill, etc, whatever. Any skill you can imagine yourself doing is a skill you can cultivate to an infinite degree. Any skill can be cultivated all the way to the extent which you are able to imagine it, as imagination acts as a pathway to strive towards, and I like to think there is no limit on imagination.

You are absolutely right about meditation. I am a avid practitioner of meditation and it has allowed me to understand many things about what the mind can do, as well as giving me some highly useful focusing abilities. Meditation has helped me in my understanding that any skill can be developed to any extent imaginable. Meditation, by strengthening my focus overtime, has taught me a manner of thinking that can allow me to gain insight into how anything can be developed. Truthfully it's not as difficult as it sounds. When a concept can be held in the imagination and you can generate intent surrounding it, then you see just how it can be manifested into reality. Merely desiring and trying to figure out how something can be made into a reality and believing that some skill can be developed in some specific way seems to grant a magical insight into seeing how it can be done.

Belief is truly powerful in self/skill development. It really gets a bad rap because of the whole anti-religious movements from the internet, which I was heavily a part of much of my childhood, lol. People want to be told they can do something. People don't like striving into the darkness, they don't like trying to do things people haven't done before. They are afraid. Most people don't become extraordinary because they are waiting for someone else to come along and show them the way, or they are waiting for someone to prove to them it is possible first. The evidence is well enough out there, but these people will never see this evidence because they usually don't believe it exists in the first place so they don't bother to look for it.

The only plateau in mind development is a self-imposed one. The cognitive reality of the mind is extremely flexible and bends to belief paradigms. The key is bridging these imaginative belief paradigms into reality, so they can become more than just fanciful ideas - it's just a matter of intending it and figuring it out.

About Energy Work/Practice:
I entirely agree many great benefits can come from doing various visualization exercises and similar things. I have heavily researched into the potential reality of these various things in the past as well as done various practices. I have experienced things many people would flat out reject as possible. The fact is while these things may have a deal of credibility, most people who experience long term results from them do not have the means to scientifically test them. In general you are dealing with a field that is quite hard to scientifically verify as a lot of the work done is subjective and via the mind. So what happens is sure some of these things can be discussed here but as I'm sure you have seen people want proof. There are thousands, if not millions, of energy/breathing exercises from hundreds of traditions that can produce verifiable effects but asserting them as effective around here is going to result in a lot of negative/skeptical responses from people who will remain negative and skeptical even in the face of the proof that does exist, as it isn't published in a scientific research study. So don't get me wrong, I know full and well the effectiveness of these practices but I don't think posting them here will evoke many wanted responses.

You guys could try fasting.

If you fast your sex drive plummets, that could be used to great effect during those times when you just cannot control anything.

For me it is the opposite. The reason fasting is talked about in so many spiritual traditions is because it not only helps detox the body, but it also diverts blood flood from the stomach and increases it to the brain, which can lead to deeper states of consciousness and what not. For me, if I haven't eatened I can sense my self control decreases and I get extremely horny, lol.

I mean fasting on the level of a cup of soup or two for a whole day.

What you could also do is try making yourself feel like shit, if you cause physical pain it can end up keeping your mind off of things.'

By the way, whats the best way of making your heart rate slow significantly so that you appear to be dead to outsiders, you sound like the best guy to ask?

I've forgotten what they call it :)

To slow your heart rate they always have those various herbs that make you appear dead, but that is not something I would suggest, lol.

The only other way I know is to master a certain state of consciousness in which the heart rate can be consciously controlled. Controlling the heart rate is actually a common thing, as well as controlling how intensely it beats. There are particular meditations for it, though, personally, I never saw too much of a practical use except in extreme circumstances. It isn't attained very quickly anyways so you're better off meditating and cultivating your concentration in the long term and from that a number of abilities will evolve, the ability to control typically autonomic nervous system functions being one of them.

I remember now, the voodoo witchcraft poisoning you with various poisons so that you appear as a zombie. Doesnt sound too healthy to me now that I think about it lol :)

I could do with a method of mental training inorder to undergo a significant reduction in heart rate, You never know when you might need it. Until the time comes when there is an electronic method of modulating heart rate.

Thanks!

Heart Rate actually is very easy to learn if you have a little bio-feedback heart monitor clip. It can help you monitor your heart rate in real time so you know when you're doing something right or wrong. I haven't done it but I know many novice meditators who have used little heart rate monitors to do just that and can control their heart rate to a reasonable extent

I'm a big believer in this as well. I've been nofap and no sex for two periods of 45 days now following each other and the energy buildup is really great. I feel a noticeable increase in drive and especially in dopamine. Interacting with other people flows very easy and natural and especially with the opposite sex. It's quite interesting the psychological effects and I have decided to keep nofap for at least a year more. I don't believe in abstaining sex but I think faping is not something that we are biologically evolved to function well doing in the long term.

ok, as a middle-aged scholar I think you're panicking over nothing. my sex drive is just as high as it was when i was 20. the only issue is a bit of boredom with one partner. at that point you have to ask yourself (and your partner) how you and feel about affairs. ever wonder why the most accomplished academics, politicians, artists, etc. have affairs? it's a matter of biology, that is spreading your genes as much as possible.

as for cognitive decline, i am trying to deal with my cognitive issues, but at the same time am vastly more efficient than i was when i was 20.

Now, from experience, I will tell you that using nootropics to boost the sex drive an most definitely work, but being skillful enough to transmute it into cognitive thought power is a difficult thing to do at first. I've found extremely high doses of Piracetam/Fish Oil to be the BEST thing for increasing this sex drive(in doses 4-30g each simultaneously). The only problem is that it generates such immense sexual energy that it can easily become overwhelming and cause one to be unable to resist pleasuring themselves.... and orgasming in such a state can actually make you fall to a lower level than if you did when you orgasmed at a lower level. It can be tricky, but if you can figure out how to channel that energy correctly for yourself, great mental abilities can come. I will say, it is not the easiest thing to do, but it is definitely possible, and definitely worth doing.

Lots of people report drop in libido on Fish Oil, so monitor the effects you are getting.

Layberinthius,

You are definitely right about something, though I think you might get a deeper understanding of this sex energy-life force connection if you look at various Yogic/Meditative/Spiritual traditions. They all relate in the very fundamental concept that spiritual(aka core mental) evolution and progression is attained by channeling the sexual energy up wards and transmuting it into pure thought power. Of course this is an incredibly unbiological explanation, but it is very true in one sense or another. When people understand this they will begin to see the correlation between slight decreases of cognitive function and their orgasms. There's a prime fundamental concept in all of these various traditions that a person can either make life with their life force, or enhance their own. People often misunderstand the real purposes behind spiritual practice, but they are not really to make a person more "holy" or "righteous" as some would like to believe, but rather to evolve the mind, body, and spirit to new heights. Consciousness, is more or less a metaphor for ones mental activity and processes, whatever it really may be on a deeper level, but the key to extreme intelligence is to focus this sexual energy into increasing the strength of consciousness.

All this talk about sexual energy remind me of the book: Taoist Secrets of Love: Cultivating Male Sexual Energy.

You all could read it. The premise is as mention here that orgasming cause a depletion of energy. Now notice that the key word is "orgasming" not "sex" neither "masturbation";  let us remember that is during an orgasm that the body has an huge surge in dopamine.  In fact, the author recommends people to have sex and lots of it to increase chi. Then instead of orgasming he says to move the accumulated energy up your spine and into your brain. This way you cultivate the mind a lot better and faster, than would be possible with simple abstinence. It take a bit of an effort to master, but is certainly worth it. This way you can have a partner/s  ;)  without having to scarify your progress.

Also for sex drive use these:

Longjack 100:1 Root Extract (Tongkat Ali)

Mucuna Pruriens (the whole plant is better because it increase dopamine and testosterone)

AI*, such as letro

*Quick comment about AI:

I have taken them before and experience a boost in energy, probably due to testosterone. An other interesting thing was that if I use it long enough, and crush estrogen to a low level my libido would drop, while leaving my energy intact.

What like getting your mind off of it long enough to get something else done?

Proper hormone levels and sexual activity are crucial for cognition and memory in the long term, though some say that too much makes you dumb. Thankfully we have supplements to help push us either way. Do what supports reproductive health and the rest of you should remain healthy longer.

There is the horniness that makes your dick "excitable" like zinc, workout, tong kat ali, viagra etc, but these generally don't really give you that youthful sexual energy, they only help to make you harder, more "up for it", benefits restricted to your balls I think? So I think horniness can't be said to be definitely the same as "sex drive" you can be horny physically without the totality that youthful sexual states have (think late teenagers to early 20s).

Sex drive as the words implicate, is directed and motivated, I am curious as to why an increase of testosterone is not tied with an increase in youthfulness and "sex drive", there must be other factors at work.

Then there is the horniness that drinking medium amounts of alchohol brings, this kind of physical desire for others. THATS what I call USEFUL HORNINESS. I have never been able to recreate that feeling on any other substance, so I don't know what alchohol does individually that benzos and other GABA agonists don't. Anyone postulate here? And really dislike getting drunk or even drinking more than 1 or 2 drinks.

+ I think its just human nature to think that the energy can be somehow "transmuted" into mental energy such as motivation. I don't think think this works, but there is a lot of anecdotal experiences as such. Personally my motivation/intelligence is higher if I am not looking and staring at every pair of boobs that walk by. I've done nofap before and I don't think there is a way to "transmute" this energy into intelligence, nor do I think that it makes sense scientifically.

I perform my best socially and sexually when I am not making women a big deal, I find alchohol does a good job of removing that barrier, yet at the same time creating intense physical desire for members of the other sex. For example touching feels extra good when drunk, that's extraordinarily unique amongst aphrodisiacs (though you wouldn't define alchohol as an aphrodisiac as such)

Note: Also I don't see from observation how testosterone helps modulates the stress response, technically it should make you more immune to stress and challenges, but on the contrary I find people who use testosterone to just become for agitated and irritable and prone to anxiety. I think testosterone reaches a certain threshold of normal, and once you pass that threshold it doesn't really give any positive mental effects apart from muscle building. The last thing I would think of testosterone is making you smarter.

Why would you take a libido-enhancing supplement during no fap? Some kind of will-power test?

I'd say working out, doing PC-muscle exercises and taking real aphrodisiacs like GHB or PT-141 should do the trick. Of course one should think about sex regularly to keep the fires up so sensible porn usage might be useful.

I was already taking Tongkat when I discovered No fap and I felt my Test was Low at the time. I'm on Suboxone and have been for many years and believe it lowers Test over time. Tongkat Ali and No fap can be a bit much but the sense of well being that goes with being extremely horny all the time is worth it.

What about phenibut ? I hate the comedown and the next day hangover/irritability but maybe it's the brand (primarforce) which I read somewhere "feels" dirty. Otherwise I have readen all positive report about the use of phenibut for sex drive, I guess particularly if you have a lack of libido from anxiety

I don't get any libido increase from Phenibut, but I seem to get react differently to it anyway(Never experienced hangover/irritability). I'm using SNS.I feel ridiculously "clean" after the substance, in particular the skin, and breathing/mediatation are cleaner. Air seems so smooth as i inhale.

With regard to nofap, I can't get past day 5. I eat raw eggs, fish oil, very rare beef and green vegetables with lots of butter, libido goes through the roof. Fapping depletes zinc. Without a doubt the only way to suceed at nofap is to be so busy that you literally don't have time to spare.

They are extremely addictive so I personally need to experiment with those and ibogaine before I can make recommedations to the general public.

This is a strange thread. There is no corelation between libido and intelligence other than having a healthy body typically means healthy mind.

An ultra-raging-high libido will just be a distraction lol.. it will not boost your intelligence.

You could take all the testosterone you'd like, but it will not make you smarter.

There are 2 ways of doing this successfully. Either abstain and channel your energy or f%ck like the Wolf of Wallstreet and make money with your whatever business/career. The first way is a bit more painful but more profound and focused, while the latter is more "go-on-the-flow" style, feeling alive and with a very very active state. Now I might say that because of all that cocaine the character was gettin'

I'm have been trying to regain my libido for a while as well. I'm also from Australia which sometimes make it difficult to get your hands on things.

IME the things you should look into are hormonal levels (Test, DHT, estrogen and Prolactin) and dopamine, especially binding to the D2 and D3 receptor.

If you need info on sources for getting things into Aus, PM me
