I bought some suntheanine (Dr's Best) to use on myself for anxiety. My husband started taking it too at night (he isn't anxious) but was finding it a little hard to sleep. Anyway, he is now saying he feels very sleepy all the time and has brain fog (can't concentrate) etc. He has not taken the suntheanine in a few days. I explained that it probably worked too well on him and that it is thought to promote relaxation/alpha brain waves but he needs to be alert for his job and is pretty sure the brain fog started since he started taking the suntheanine. How long does it take for the body to get it out of your system? Has anyone else found suntheanine almost too effective in causing sleepiness/relaxation/slow thinking. Is there anything he can take to wake up his brain/get rid of the brain fog or should he just wait it out?

I am pretty sensitive to theanine. His fogginess should go away pretty soon, just give it some time and give him some espresso ;)

The times I've used it before bed has made me groggy the next morning - most "sedating" or calming supplements leave me feeling that way the next morning unless I take it an hour or two before bed, and even then sometimes. When I do wind up using supplements like theanine, it's usually to balance out stimulants. He should be back to normal very soon.
