I am starting a Raja meditation course - I was hoping someone could give advice on
Supplements that could aid in meditation. I was thinking Pyritnol. If anyone else
knows of any supps that could aid in this endeavor - it will be greatly appreciated.

BLESSINGS :)

Now that is an interesting post.

What is Raja meditation (as opposed to many other flavors with which I am familiar) and what is your understanding of meditation in general?

Shouldn't one of goals of meditation be to achive something more without supplements?

I agree da sense.

What is raja meditation? Its just another form of meditation with a different name.

Be more specific about raja meditation and what you are looking for soundmind.

IMO, taking something to meditate is counter productive and against what meditation is about for me. Even the process of sitting on a cushion is somewhat ego based and therefore, again, IMO, counter productive and against what mediatation is about for me. Shit, on that note I should be asking who this "me" is that I am referring to.

I digress..........

Guys,

You are obviously correct I was trying to lead him there gently LOL.

Zoolander,

Having meditated in a semi-lotus position on a cushion is a vastly different and...superior experience. Ya I know, I know. But the cushion is really a meditative exercise and if it is more ...effective... real meditation is more...likely/possible..or some BS like that.....

I agree scottl. For quite sometime meditation for me was about a spiritual ego. I dont think that its about that anymore for me. Well not as much so at least.

Sitting in a posture that is suitable for meditation is beneficial :)

Meditation on the sands of the beach is a perfect and comfortable replacement for that cushion, guys. Maybe even wet sand~ woohoo!

As far as I remember, Raja Yoga, something like the "king" of yoga, is an educational based meditation focused on learning and interpreting many reading from the Upanishads, Vedas, etc. "King" because the mind is the ultimate of faculties and also the most difficult to attend head on. :)

Maybe I'm totally wrong though...it's been a while since that survey was conducted.

Greetings,

I was looking for any supps that can help me concentrate and still the mind - When you meditate your mind has
to be still. Sometimes through the experiences one goes through they lose touch of that ability to completelt still their mind -
I lost taht ability five years ago - When I had gone through a traumatic experience. I don't doubt that with practice I can
achieve that state but any supps that could help would be a benefit...

As to what is Raja Meditation

Raja Meditation

As your consciousness continues to move in your third eye, pastel colors begin to appear in your forehead. Sumptuous, glorious pinks, yellows, whites, blues, indigos, greens, and purples take their turn or play in combination in your forehead. Then, you may think you are seeing fireflies, lightning, or moonlight as your life force becomes more concentrated and more actively prepares you to behold higher consciousness. This process is readying you to experience your true nature as pure consciousness, pure spirit, pure awareness.

And then the light in your forehead blazes brighter than the sun! But, you find it is soothing to look into the awesome light, soothing to behold it. This is the brilliance of your inner light, your essence, revealing itself to you.

Raja yoga, particularly, requires a teacher because it is easy to strain yourself, and it’s also easy to delude yourself into high level hallucinations rather than actual experiences of your higher consciousness.

However, the genuine raja yogi lives in bliss, with his, or her, will surrendered to God. A raja yogi realizes the profound truth of the Biblical passage: If therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be filled with light. **

Anybody who knows any supps that can help - or even thinks that I should not use any- Any advice is appreciated.

Blessings :)

Sound,

There are a number of things that come to mind:

1. You might read this:

http://www.thewayofs...meditation.html

for a take on meditation....or at least one kind. Or this:

http://www.thewayofs...g-thoughts.html

From a passage by the indian mystic Nisargadatta Maharaj....

There are supps which can increase concentration, but not really help you quiet the mind..and even if they could it would not really be of ultimate use to you.

You might check out this

On Silence:

http://www.thewayofs...rd-silence.html

Is there a particular living teacher you are following.....or...?

Hmmm maybe the only "supplement" i would recommend for meditation would be some kind of tea you prefer. Theanins could calm you down a bit, but everything else i belive would be counter productive for meditation.

The mind seems to me to be naturally unsettled to me.

IMO, do not take supplements to help you meditate. This may sound harsh but you need to stop looking for the easy way out here. Stick with it and put in some effort. Meditation is not meant to be easy. You are fighting with your neurotic side and internal dialouge.

Damn, mediation is just not meditation anymore. It just seems to be another form of self-absorbtion with everyone wanting to achieve some form of nirvana. Reality is suffering and for me, mediation is about accepting this suffering and not escaping it.

I thought mediation was about waking up and not going to sleep!

I've been trying different supplements to help me achive astral projection, but nothing really worked. Closes to some "effects" was 10mg of melatonin, but it only gave my some weird dreams for about 2-3 hours and after that i couldn't sleep.
After i tried OBE, astral, lucid dreaming or whatever unusuall i could experience, i was able to OBE after many tries, and few times i had lucid dreaming. But this was all due to me "meditating" on this and trying hard.

the best supplement to help meditation is GOOD EAR PLUGS! the mind will quiet much better with as little sensory impression as possible.... no lights, no sounds, no smells.

proper(emphasis on proper) practice of breathing exercise(pranayam) will DRASTICALLY improve the depth of your meditation. i highly suggest giving it a try.

im with zoolander, i wouldnt suggest taking any supplements to help you meditate. learn to do it on your own.

So would it be counter productive to Meditate while taking Nootropics? Or any other supplement for that matter, as to be more natural, one would have to stop all unnatural supplementation and eat only unprocessed foods.

no, its just not recomended that you take a supplement specifically to try to induce a deeper meditative state...

So if your taking supplements for reasons other than to induce a deeper meditative state, it's ok?

the idea is you dont want to have a crutch... you dont want to be reliant on a substance to meditate deeply... because in truth you dont need any substances to get you to that state, all it takes is practice.

While I'm sure there are some nootropics and other supplements that might be beneficial for a sound meditative practice, you are more likely to find aid in some of technology's recent endeavors involving dual binaural beats, CES, transcranial magnetic stimulation, or biofeedback.
