what ive been wondering is:

#1: what is the difference between a polyphenol and a catechin

and #2: what are the preferable doses of each

these are the 2 products ive been looking at:

AOR EGCG MAX

SUPPLEMENT FACTS:
Serving Size: 1 Capsule %DRI
Green Tea (Camellia sinesis) Extract… 700 mg *
Total catechins……………………… 560 mg *
Epigallocatechin gallate (EgCG) …. 315 mg *
Epicatechin gallate (ECg) ………… 75 mg *
Epigallocatechin (EGC)…………… 30 mg *
Epichtechin (EC)……… 35 mg *
Caffeine …………………… 7 mg *

GAIA herbs green tea extract

Whole Plant Standardization Activity Profile
Bioactivity Per 2 Capsules                  mg Activity
Total Polyphenols                              300 mg†
Total Catechins                                    240 mg†
    Calculated as:
    EGC (Epigallocatechin)
    EC (Epicatechin)
    EGCg (Epigallocatechingallate)
    ECg (Epicatechingallate)

now the AOR stuff is defintly a better value, as 1 pill gives the same about of catechins as 4 pills of the gaia stuff... but AOR doesnt mention polyphenols at all, and the EGCG content seems to be really high for a single dose(ive read large doses of EGCG can be a pro-oxidant).

thanks all

Brew it and drink it. You'll get the proper ratios.

>>> what is the difference between a polyphenol and a catechin

A polyphenol is an umbrella term like phyto-nutirent (plant nutrient). Specifically, a polyphenal refers to the chemical within a plant that gives it its color. These are usually antioxidants, and beneficial to humans. There are literally 1000's of these.

A catechin is a type of bioflavonoid, which is a plant chemical with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, beneficial to protecting the plant (and luckily for us, they protect humans. too). These don't necessarily affect the plant's (or fruit's) color.
