Hello I am interested in setting up a "Meetup" Group with assisted Grant Funding from Longecity. The goal of this meetup is a local place for Longecity members to meet, and also to gain new people. Right now it's 50 percent off and I don't think it's displaying correctly, but here is the setup costs for the group:

https://secure.meetu...eate/learn-more

The goal is a one month or more of the $9.99 option(maybe cheaper because 50 percent off sale right now). This meetup will help gain new increased traffic into the Life Extension and Anti-Aging movement! Such as showing folks the new "The Immortalists" trailer or full documentary / an Aubrey De Grey speech / The Church of Perpetual Life including founder Bill Faloon / Longecity.org and materials / and much more!

I take a Funding Grant opportunity from Longecity very seriously, so physical proof of photos and .doc materials will be displayed for further seeking of funding.

Let me know what you think. :)

Looks like a virtual space meet-up, right? Like having a conference call.

I apologize for the late reply.

Meetup is actually for real life meetings. Their slogan is "using the internet to get off the internet". It's a social networking tool of Local peoples and similar interests. It's especially useful for demonstrating Life Extension to new people who don't know about it.

What advantages does it provide over just using our regional forums and planning a google hangout or a skype and then following up with real space meetings?

Meetup is used widely to connect people with various orginizations and meetup will give you access to a different demographic. Posting on our forum will only attract people already in our community (which is also necessary), posting on meetup will put us in front of people who are looking to get involved with something. In densely populated areas, meetup is a great way to get things going. In lower density areas we need to focus on attracting healthy lifestyle people and not just immortalists if we want to have something work out or we could do both to hasten the attraction of new members.

This is a reasonable idea IMO.

I am still not sold on paying to "meet" people (when there are all kind's of free methods). I have been in this business for a long time and random people just don't immediately glom onto immortalism or even life extension. We usually meet people who find this place on their own. Activists usually come here. Advertising to the general population might better be done through Facebook, twitter, google+, youtube, other digital platforms. Don't want to be a total negative ninny here, just don't like paying for services like this when other options are essentially free.

The idea with meetup is to get people to try it out. We won't necessarily get them to sign up for "immortalism 101" but we can more than likely get them to sign up for something from our perspective such as a "Sustainable Health Meetup" for joggers, walkers, weightlifters, martial artists, calisthenicists (sp? word?) health foodies, and people who are generally health or socially oriented with their spare time. We might even help to get people who are strictly into immortalism to also get involved with self improvement and improve their health and well being.

This way, we can bring people into something enjoyable and fun and create a great impression without needing hoards of gifted orators.

Meetup also advertises and brings people to them, they have a separate demographic than we have so we're likely to create alot of new members especially if people are being brought to our online hangouts and find out they can learn more about something on our website.

I've always liked the clinical look/feel of this site as an adult. The thing that inspired me most as a child were the great masterpeices of painters.

You know the saying "High School never ends". I dissagree. Inspiration ends. (devine wind, if you're oldschool)

So how do we inspire the next generation to take up where we leave off? If we leave off.

Am I correct in assuming most of us are having trouble getting government grants/funding? Do we inspire? Or talk over they're heads in proposals?

Suppose we make a coloring book for children. They're parents in government might see this as meeting them halfway. Possibly of a 9 year old Einstein and Marlon Brando hiking describing what they see when they look at the future. Brando would say "Really fast motorcycles!" Einstein would reply "You'll need really strong arms to hold on to it"

Hmmm...  a coloring book with quotes would be interesting. I can see us doing this. We can likely involve G. Stolyarov.
