basically my entire life(im 24) ive had 20/20 vision, but over the past 6 months my vision has gotten progressivly worse... and i cant figure out why. things are getting blurry, my night vision is bad, my eyes are sensative to glares(especially headlights coming in the oposite direction).

ive gotten bloodwork, so i know everything checks out... i supplement properly, so im positive im not deficiant in anything... the only thing i can think of is that i spend alot of time in front of the computer, and its got an older CRT monitor. spending less time isnt really an option b/c of school & the nature of my career, so i was thinking about getting a flat panel monitor. do you think this would be of any help?

im also thinking of adding: a carotanoid/lutein/buddies complex, billberry/grape seed complex, and some n-acetyl-l-carnosine eyedrops...

any other suggestions, thoughts, etc are more than welcome.

Dude, that sucks. If you've ruled out any health issues with the eye itself, it could just be progressive myopia. Supplement aggressively, use NAC eye drops and look into pinhole glasses as they are supposed to help in the early stages of myopia. Ayurveda uses an eye rinse of Triphala to treat myopia, and possibly some supps like vinpocetine and ginkgo would be good for improving microcapillary circulation.

1. Computer eyestrain...there are some special glasses...forget the name...here:

http://www.prio.com/index.cfm

no personal experience, but you might check them out. ALso if you google eyestrain and computer there are various sites with info and exercises, etc which may be of help.

2. Eyesight is liver in traditional chinese medicine....experiencing any stress particularly in the form of frustration or anger in these past months? Getting any regular aerobic exercise (this prevents stagnation of liver energy in chinese medicine)?

YOU might try looking for an acupuncturist. You can search here:

aaom.org
http://aaom.org/45000.asp

or

http://www.acufinder.com/

Best (so an acupuncturist told me) is one who trained and came here from china. I just saw one such person myself today and was very pleased.

Oh and don't worry, if done right, you barely feel the acupuncture needles.

3. There is also see clearly or some such advertised on radio....and they have a competitor...exercises which...I suspect may actually be useful to you.

I"ve been through...like 3 or 4 acupuncturists before this one. They were...not optimal. You can certainly try him, but if not helpful and no results other ways then try to find one from china....Also the ones that people (Including me) have had good results from are all 5 element school. Ask him if that is school of acupuncture he belongs to.

I would definitely recommend a flat panel, or even better, an LCD. I got me a nice 19" LCD.

Forgot to mention that Chinese wolfberries are reputed to improve eyesight. This is probably linked to the liver thing Scott L mentioned, although I don't know lots about TCM so maybe Scott can chime in here. Another Chinese liver tonic is schizandra berries. Apparently they share many of milk thistle hepaprotective qualities:

He's right. I didn't know that. (lycium=chinese wolfberries)

http://www.dragonher...p?herb_id=13163

I would be careful though. Lycium is great to eat as a snack (even better with nuts). However self medicating with chinese herbs is not recommended unless you really know what you are doing. Taking many chinese herbs is not like taking most supps in that they may be adressing an energetic imbalance you do not have and therefore you may be creating energetic imbalances.

Edit: well the link worked a little while ago. I imagine it will be up again.

I've been reading more about goji/wolf berry plants and it turns out they are one of the few plants I can actually get to grow at my house. I'm going to plant a bunch this year.

Go very carefully through all the supplements that you are currently taking and try to pinpoint if any of them thst could possibly have any effect on your vision, even try cutting out some of them (or all) and then see if it improves your vision at all, after that begin to supplement with proven sight enhancing supplements (add new ones, increase dosage of the old ones by tolerance mapping) And please for your health's sake, get a Nice Lcd 19" monitor, for example Viewsonic VP930B
( http://www.viewsonic...p930b/index.htm - also I would suggest that you use the Digital Video output for your monitor and get a video card that will support it), make sure you have the proper lighting on when you use your monitor (make sure the whole room is lit up and there is not a big contrast between the brightness of the monitor and your surroundings) and throw your old CRT monitor OUT OF THE WINDOW, it is truly not worth using it if you spend a lot of time at your computer, also get more exercise to increase the bloodflow to your eyes and your brain, and go outside and look around you trying to focus on closer things and things very far away , etc (good exercise for eyesight) + fresh air. Well that about briefly sums it up.

Try using EMI lenses. They typically filter out ELF, VLF,
UV350/400 and near/far IR wavelengths.

This is especially important if you are using a pre-1995
monitor, which emit higher levels of radiation, or if you
want to keep it, but it is far better discarding it for a
big 19" LCD as mentioned above.

I use the "HEMW" lenses by this brand, but the "XP160"
range is probably better :

http://www.hitoplens...dlist&CateID=48

A good filter screen in front would also be good.

These take care of the radiation problems to your
eyes only though. Looking at a monitor is not similar
to reading a piece of paper. One will tend to get
presbyopia eventually, or worsen it with intensive
use. Mine went from 100 to 150 rapidly in no time.
Myopia will also worsen.

The vision testers and lenses mentioned above in www.prio.com look pretty good and should help you.
Wished they had them here in Malaysia.

The monitor's screen is scrolling at a typical 60 Hz,
or rather 60 times a second - this is extremely irritating
to our eyes and brain. I've been told this has caused
seizures in many cases.

Try increasing the refresh rate to at least 85 Hz.
100 or 120 Hz would be even better, but your monitor
may burn out too fast.

As for eyedrops, I alternate between eyebright, cineraria
maritama and Similasan's Computer Eyes.

That's right, I see so many people sit behind their monitors which are set at 60Hz per second and they don't even realize what it is! But I can see all the flickering for afar right away, it is a bit different with lcd monitors though, even at 60Hz the frequency is barely noticeable and even though the 1280x1024 at 60Hz is a standard for lcd monitors atm, many of the new ones will support frequencies of up to 85Hz in combination with a good video card and Digital Video output. I am using Viewsonic VP930B with Geforce 7800 GTX PCI-Express. It's even more important to have a good lighting around while using lcd monitors, because their brightness and contrast are much higher then of the CRT ones. (ie. don't use in the dark or you'll go blind pretty quickly)
