I got a free sample of a mineral supplement which helps the acid-base balance.

The sample also included a few urine PH measuring sticks. According to the instructions

the PH level of the urine is most acidic in the morning and then should go up during the day

so there should be a curve where it goes from acidic to more alkaline.

But in my case the urine PH stays at 5.6 (maybe even lower cause the lowest the stick measures

is 5.6) during the whole day!

I'm pretty alarmed now cause I often heard that being too acidic causes all kinds of diseases!

I also drink a lot of coffee and wine in the evening and also have much stress.

I also have many health issues which usually doctors can't help me with (chronic joint pains, feeling

overall pretty miserable, being tired, low energy, depression, lipomatosis, chronic eczemas, hair issues).

Now I wonder what if being too acidic plays a role in some of my symptoms?

However I don't really know what to do now. I looked into various supplements like powders and pills

which are meant to correct the acid-base balance and all of them contain huge doses of calcium citrate

and some of them also contain huge doses of potassium.

From what I heard calcium isn't healthy and is linked to arteriosclerosis which is why I'm hesitant to take

a supplement which contains 300mg or more of calcium per day.

And taking huge doses of potassium also seems to carry some risks. One website of a company which

sells these mineral powders also contained a warning that when you have certain conditions you must not

take potassium.

I don't know what to do now.

I wish I could just go to my GP and tell him that I think I'm too acidic and then ask him what to do.

But if I did that I'm sure he'd just tell me to forget about it. I also went to him after finding out that I

have elevated nitrosative stress (which I had measured by labratory) and he didn't know what this is

and told me to forget about it.

I'm not that convinced in the theory, but i try to at least get close to neutral because i think its better to be safe then sorry. In any case, if you are worried, here is a handy calculator.

Alto the website provides these numbers for optimal ph. Not sure how accurate they are.

  • Blood plasm pH 7.35 – 7.45
  • Gastric juice pH 1.2 - 3
  • Bile pH 7.4-7.7
  • Urine pH 5-8
  • Saliva pH 6.8
  • Joint fluid pH 7.4-7.8
