I recently started adding 'GHV' (ginko, vinpocetine and Hup A) to my regimen (along with ~800mg piracetam bacopa rhodelia and ALCAR/kR-ALA) and noticed that although I can get to sleep, Ive been wakeing up about 2.5-3 hours earlier than normal.

I was supplimenting ginko and huperzine separately, but with smaller doses. My hunch is that the doubled huperzine contnet is the culprit.

Anyone else have this type of effect? And also- I just lay there in bed because I feel like I should be sleeping more- so I havent gotten up and tried takeing advantage of the extra time. Im scared to do this because I am in school, and its very intense- lots of studying and exams etc and I want to make sure my head is sharp because I usually dont function well at all when Im sleep deficient.

Is it possible that these nootropics might be affording me more efficient sleep? Or is this probably wishful thinking? I wonder because usually any type of stimulant taken too close to bed, and I cant sleep. But the huperzine is taken in the morning.......(I know its not a stim.)

Are you talking about a product named "GHV?" If so, who makes it and where do you get it?

Just my personal opinion but I don't believe there is any way to get by on less than a minimum amount of sleep. You will pay a price in the end if you aren't getting what you need. Not everone need the same amount but 8 hours is a good figure to shoot for unless you've gotten by for much of your life with less and no problems came up. I don't believe there is a means to speed it to 4 hours if you normally need 8. You might be able to do it for a while but I think it will catch up with you. Best to take it easy on whatever kept you from sleeping. You did try things one at a time, didn't you? If not, then you have to ditch the new things one at a time before you find out what's doing it. I would not go to drugs to help you sleep though some melatonin is certainly safe. You get hooked on the sleeping stuff right away if you give them an inch. Same thing with laxatives and so on. You can get seriously addicted to eye drops or a lot of things you might not think of as being drugs or herbs. But I digress.

rfarris- 'GHV' ginko, huperzine, vinpocetine......

I was already takeing ginko, and a product which contained huperzine. But I dont think that the huperzine product was of any quality. I had taken vinpocetine before on and off, so I was familiar with its oh-so-subtle effects. The huperzine is definatly suspect. I have since started takeing half the dose with no problems. Going to search for separate sources as the GHV combo doesnt allow me the ability to regulate dose like Id like. Id prefer to cycle the huperzine instead of always having to take the same amount if I want full doses of ginko and vinpocetine.

I'll tell you the scary thing -- If you check out UN, you'll find out that his old Hup-A (the one I bought) is now marked half-price, and his new stuff is labeled "it is 3 times stronger than synthetic forms," whereas the old product isn't. That makes me worry that the stash I have is the sythetic form.
