Perika St Johns wort vs Ashwagandha or bot...

TheFountain's Photo TheFountain 31 Jan 2016

About to place another supplement order and wanted to ask this question.

So for mollifying general anxiety and low grade depression which would you prefer, or would you prefer to stack them together? I have tried Perika brand St Johns wort before and I believe it helped me with low grade depression and some of my anxiety symptoms. However I have never tried ashwagandha yet, believe it or not. So I am wondering if I should either return to Perika, Try ashwagandha or maybe stack both together, and if doing the latter, how should I to optimize the result?

My understanding of ashwagandha is that it is similar to Holy Basil in that it blocks cortisol but without the high sedative effect of rendering you sleepy.

Can you guys tell me your experiences with it and your opinions on the rest of my post?

I vastly prefer Ash to St. John's.  IMO it's a much more potent herb.  Ash is more of Gaba agonist and Gaba "modulator," so it works more as an anxiolytic versus and anti-depressant;   but, in so many cases depression and anxiety are comorbid.

In any case, when trying a new herb I always find it more effective to take the new herb alone before mixing with outher herbs, so I can better judge my own response.

Hope that helps.

You know I seem to have some good success with Holy Basil (Tulsi) tea so I decided to order the Ashwagandha extract by planetary herbs. I think it's a chewable because it's cherry flavored. If it's similar to Tulsi but without inducing sleepiness it would be a perfect day time anxiolytic. I will find out after my order arrives.
