I certainly hope the latest new employee with high-level access to Alcor's operation works out this time.

Unsure what you mean by 'high level access'? I'd guess that Alcor is too small to distinguish 'access levels' among their full time employees. Hiring decisions are almost impossible to criticise from outside. In terms of qualifications, his Dr. Sheleg's cv does not seem to a perfect match, but its not bad either.

Good luck and best success to Dr. Sheleg!

Sergey V. Sheleg, M.D., Ph.D., ext. 120
Chief Research Scientist
sergey@alcor.org

Sergey joined Alcor in 2005. His primary responsibility is to develop the new methods for monitoring circulation of cryoprotectants and blood substitutes (oxygen-carrying volume expanders) in the brain before and during cryonics procedures. He is also working on the problem of designing new methods for preventing severe hypoxic brain damage after cardiac arrest before starting cryonics procedures.

Prior to his joining Alcor, Dr. Sheleg held a Research Associate position at N.N. Alexandrov Research Institute of Oncology and Medical Radiology (Lesnoy, Belarus). Dr. Sheleg worked on the problem of designing new methods of local chemotherapy for malignant brain tumors. At the same time, Dr. Sheleg studied the problem of blood circulation in the brain after warm cardiac arrest.

In 2002, Dr. Sheleg became a postdoctoral fellow at the Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in the field of molecular cell biology. From 2004 to 2005, Dr. Sheleg held a Visiting Fellow position at National Institutes of Health (National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases) in the field of molecular oncology/cell biology.

Dr. Sheleg received his M.D. from the Belarus State Medical University in 1994 and his Ph.D. in Oncology from N.N. Alexandrov Research Institute of Oncology and Medical Radiology (Lesnoy, Belarus) in 2002. He has more than 20 published papers in the fields of neuro-ocology, neuro-infectious diseases, brain anoxia, and molecular cell biology:

Why doesn't Alcor list his papers on "brain anoxia" instead? This is more relevant to the work he is doing at Alcor now.

Since 2000 or so, I've read glowing articles in Cryonics magazine about Dr. Lemler, Cindy Felix, Larry Johnson, Joe Waynick and that bookkeeper who bought a sports bar with an Alcor member's money he embezzled (or so I gathered from the press reports). I notice a pattern here where the new employee at the Lab eventually does something that retrospectively makes the article about him or her embarrassing to read.

So, what new scandal has happened at Alcor?

Dr. Sheleg Leaves Alcor

We regret to announce that Dr. Sergey Sheleg is no longer employed by Alcor. Employment matters must always be kept confidential, so there is not much more we can say.

We wish Dr. Sheleg the best of luck in his future endeavors.

Well there is the IBPT story.

Brian Wowk posted on Dec. 1 over at Alcor United:

That company and that website were apparently an initiative of Dr. Sheleg taken without knowledge of Alcor's board. We learned about it from Yuri's Pichugin's CryoNet post at the same time as everyone else. The nature of the involvement of other staff members is still being investigated. They apparently did not know or approve of the website. It's my understanding that the website has been taken down, and involved parties have been instructed that running off and creating websites that promote personal ideas related to one's employment is not how things are supposed to be done.

So either Dr. Sheleg quit, or else Alcor fired him, for setting up a website and apparently a company to promote his own cryobiological ideas? Seems like he would have had to do more than that to justify termination, like helping himself to more equipment, money or intellectual property than he had entitlement to under his conditions of employment.

The site is still up Cryostasis.com (I have it on my second screen now.) But Alcor's staff members aren't listed anymore. The staff is now only Dr. Sheleg and Mr. Cohen.

PS. advancedatheist why don't you post at Alcor United any more?
