NASA is challenging teams to create thick, metabolically-functional human vascularized organ tissue in a controlled lab setting. It’s called the Vascular Tissue Challenge, and the first three teams to succeed will split a total prize of $500,000. It’s a challenge, but a necessary one for getting NASA one step closer to sending humans to Mars.

It's great that they're encouraging the creation of functional organ tissue, but I don't really see how this gets them closer to Mars.  There's a fair chance that Elon Musk will beat them to it.

We need better incentives to encourage developments like this, governments and private business should be pouring significant amounts into anti aging and life extension biotech
