I am looking for supplements or other ways to specifically improve emotional intelligence.

My idea with this post is that when you're feeling flat you can think well my receptors are fried and pop some Phenibut pills to perk you up, or drink to forget but that doesn't lead to anything other than addiction. I like to think that you are feeling flat for a reason- maybe you supress your emotions because they are mostly negative because of a traumatic past. So it would be beneficial to work through these emotions somehow.

But to do that and to modulate your emotions a strong emotional intelligence would be very beneficial, which not everyone has (I don't).

As an example Magnesium threonate puts me in an analytical state of mind- I can think things through better, but this is very much a left side of the brain effect.

Everyone through one's story has probably a favorite method. To access that 'flat' feeling and let it tell more about, you could try focusing.

Oh, now I see you're probably German speaking. On that other side you'll find a list of addresses of trained focusing-assistants, certainly one near you. Focusing is very different from other therapy forms in that it isn't fixated on a expert vs. client role. It's more about assisting in how to become the expert in your own inner world. Therefore it's used in variety of fields like therapy, counseling, coaching, super-vision, peer-assistance, health-care, education, creativity, spirituality, and much more. For example, I once applied for financial support for further training in focusing-therapy from my boss. He unconventionally took a session with me, to get to know what it would be about. That was of course only possible, because in focusing-assistance I don't need to know anything about the story-line, just how one is relating to his inner experience, and give further guidance in that. For a first session you could try it even over phone, if you find someone willing on that address list.

There are more intense ways for doing the same, for example hallucinogenics. Which can be quite enlightening. But in the long run something of a gentler approach will also become more of a faculty. Like 'emotional intelligence'. Other then, at one point, mere memory.

Oxytocin, it is really that simple.

Stop using stupid terms like "left brain" when talking about cognition. It OBVIOUSLY is more complex.

I was like you trying to find supplements to increase my emotional intelligence. Fuck that! What's really improved my social and emotional is intelligence is pushing boundaries. You need to embrace being uncomfortable and try out all kinds of shit in social situations to see what you can get away with and not.

I think mindfulness has been just as important for my growth. Just google mindfulness and emotional intelligence / regulation, and you'l find lots of studies on the topic.

The Art of Empathy: A Complete Guide to Life's Most Essential Skill is written by a woman with high emotional intelligence, she describes many techniques for understanding emotions better.

reading a book by an extremely empathetic individual is likely to leave you feeling inadequate and lost, that's how Dan Goleman made me feel years ago. anything that isn't distinctly 'you' will feel quite unnatural in the long run.

is sex considered a supplement? maybe that's why I'm frazzled. forskolin is a natural inducer of oxytocin, not very potent, however, and it tends to have an anxiogenic component requiring magnesium to balance out. in this case, meditation and exercise are safer bets than forskolin

Interesting...any other candidates? I think Oxytocin is perfect, but it doesn't alleviate classic anxiety, but does improve social cognition a lot which has the side effect of reducing anxiety.

I find Kava to be somewhat of an entactogen, makes you genuinely interested about people's lives and has strong anxiolytic effect without impairing cognition. Definitely a good tool.

Which dosage and which form have you tried? I tried the injectable peptide and it did nothing. Then I ordered the intra-nasal spray from I think centropics. One spray is 50mcg which seems like a much higher dose than I’ve ever seen recommended. I’ve tried one spray a couple times so far and haven’t felt anything. Maybe more is needed?

I never tried Oxytocin, but I did take the Lactobacillus reuteri 6475 strain which is supposed to raise Oxytocin. I would say it has pro social  potential for sure.

I wonder if there is a lasting effect on social cognition from Oxytocin.

1-2IU per spray up the nose. Injectable peptide would do nothing unless you want to deliver a baby :P

^ Because Oxytocin doesn't do the same thing peripherally as it does in the brain and the molecule does not pass through the blood-brain barrier, so the only method is intranasal spray.

Real Oxytocin is fragile so it is hard to find,  also you need a specific buffer for it to sufficiently absorb nasally, not just bacteriostatic water.

I am somewhat of an expert on this chemical as I am a self-treated autism sufferer with naturally low levels of it. It does work 100%. Oxytocin is a big reason why women are more empathetic and socially talented.

Interesting, I will look into that.

Oxytocin lasts about 3 hours, the only lasting effect is the positive experience, that is self-reinforcing over time so you are more likely to be sociable the next time instead of trigger a fear reaction. It does not create permanent change in innate social cognition as far as I understand or experience.

The spray I have is 50mcg per spray. Isn’t that like 2000iu? How would I know the dosage if it’s 50mcg per spray? Thanks

A supplement isn't going to increase your emotional intelligence, you need to practice it like any other skill.

Sorry I got my numbers mixed up.

It works out to be like 0.5mg per 1ml of liquid I recall. I have to get back to you on the specific numbers, it's in my notes somewhere:

Folks, you have it all wrong. The way to get oxytocin is to cuddle (a lot), be intimate, and have sex with a loved one.

Otherwise, there is no good "supplement" for emotional intelligence. You can argue that there is no "emotional intelligence" at all, but instead a combination of personality traits like agreeableness, neuroticism, etc. Personally, my insight into my own neurotic traits and ways increased my "emotional intelligence." The old fashioned real relations with people, exercise, nutrition, and staying away from (excessive) alcohol and other poisons or bad/dishonest behavior also work wonders.

If one is a young male, listening to videos by Jordan Peterson is very beneficial (the mental health and motivation ones, not the ones on politics or philosophy).

Hello I worked it out, 0.05mg (per .1 ml sprat aprox) is correct. 2-4 sprays is what you are looking for (1-2 in each nostril). Sorry I didn't catch your question until I was checking notifications.

Emotional intelligence isn't equivalent to anytype of, drug that you can take it might make you more "emotional" but it won't increase. You can only raise your EQ through practice.
