So what kind of strategies do you guys use to maintain peak mental performance *throughout the entire day* ?

Eight-ten hours just isn't cutting it. I want to be able to run at peak performance 12-16 hours a day. The problem is that after too long of a period of working, I just lose all motivation to continue, start getting angry, depressed, or distracted. This ends up adding several hours of breaks throughout the day trying to "refresh" my mental landscape.

Are nootropics really *necessary* to get 16 real hours out of your day? Usually I don't have too much time to work out, which is regrettable.

Some actions I'm taking ...

practicing 15 minute meditation sessions
cutting out a lot of the crap in my diet
walking to class instead of riding the bus
scheduling much more extensively

I am sort of figuring out how I can run at peak performance for 12-16 hours, I can go to school in the morning and when I close at work I am still feeling great.

For awhile a little too much dopamine (selegiline 2.5mg) was making me feel kind of tired at about the 8 hours mark, I cut back to 1 or so mg's and now I am running fine.
