My understanding is that the Tech Review SENS challenge has not produced any plausible critiques of SENS, therefore I suggest the bets are raised! Raise the challenge to maybe 50000-100000$. Could Metuselah foundation and Tech Review work a deal on this?
SENS would get great round of publicity pointing that no one has answered the challenge and anyway, the sooner we find something wrong with it the better. If still no one finds anything wrong with it, that would be an EXTREMELY good leverage for the implementation of SENS.

There will be a major announcement on the SENS Challenge on Monday - Pontin has now appointed a panel of judges, which obviously it's his prerogative to reveal but which will be ... newsworthy. Also, two entries have now been received and a third is threatened - again I can't name names, sorry - so actually I would now say that raising the fund is not the best use of 5-digit sums at this point. It would only become so if high-profile SENS skeptics start to take the public position that their time is worth more than that.

Is there a good link to what you're talking about?

No - it'll all be announced on Monday, I don't know where exactly, but I'll of course mention it here as soon as I know, in the unlikely event that no one beats me to it.

Terrific, I (with, I am sure, many here) will be looking forward to the May/June 2006 issue of Technology Review. (the results won't be available before that will they?)
As far as the 4th rule:
4. Aubrey De Grey will reply to all submissions. The submitting scientist may respond. All three documents will be considered by the panel.
Hopefully it doesn't hurt that they will get in "the last word" by being able to respond to Aubrey's response, instead of going one more, and letting Aubrey respond to that response.

We thought of the "last word" problem and came up with the compromise that they get the last word but it is limited to 200 words with no supplementary material.

What's that smell in the air?
Oh..
I think it's Aubrey de Grey dominating the coming opposition.

Venter is in ... what's the bet he is a closet SENSophile.
Aubrey, any chance for us to have a look at the submissions before you cast your response in stone? (maybe help out where we can)

I have to keep the submissions (and my responses) confidential I'm afraid - Pontin very reasonably wants exclusivity of publication - but the biologists within the MF are helping out.

That's understandable. Should you have need of any added analysis prior to a response don't hesitate to email.
