So I was taking my hydergine for about a week and wasn't noticing any major side effects besides an occasional slight "out of it"-ness. But then the other day I was lifting at the gym and suddenly I came the closest I ever have to blacking out. I was light headed, seeing spots, and the music was doing the old nitrus "wa wa wa wa wa" effect. So I immediately told my trainer I had to stop and we went down to his office.

He was like "the only thing I can think of is that your blood pressure is too high" so he took my BP, but it turns out my blood pressure was 79/43. Then he had me stand up and take my BP again and it went even lower.

I'm 24 yrs old and in great physical shape. Even if I wasn't eating properly that day there's no conceivable way that it could have made my BP go that low, which leaves the hydergine as suspect #1.

I read that hydergine is a vasodilator and an adrenal antagonist which could explain what happened.

Has anyone else had similar experiences with this?

Some people have said that hydergine makes them very tired if they have a low B.P to begin with. How much were you taking? 4.5mg? That could be fairly dangerous if it's having those effects...this would be a good time re-think hydergine.

I think if one has a low B.P. it's probably wise to stay away from vasodilators on a whole :)

I react the same way to Hydergine, even at 1 mg daily. You will probably react badly to any vasolidator, including viagra and cialis :) You will probably be better with caffeine and other vasoconstrictors

Cool, thanks for the feedback guys. Yeah I was only taking 4.5mg/day which isn't that much. I'm thinking da_sense and mitkat are right and I should avoid vasodilators altogether. Damn shame though since hydergine has so many benefical qualities as a neuroprotectant.

Are there any other drugs that can give me similar neuroprotection without making my BP drop?

Thanks!

4.5mg is "much" for young people. You can try 1-2 mg daily (as manufacturers instructions say to start very low and work your way up to higher dose), but i still believe you will have sides (low BP).

You can look into deprenyl, it's not similar in action but has some neroprotectant properties among others.
