The Royals have taken up some good "public relations" charity through the years, like environmentalism and old land mine clearance (Princess Di's cause, right?) but so far I don't think they have taken up anything more risky or radical. With all the money and influence (and vanity) they have, you would think they could affect some faster progress in life extension research.
I think it may be in part due to the fact that perhaps they just don't know it was out there. That and they like the majority probably think that it is impossible to even consider halting the aging process. Reminds me of a study with dogs that we looked at in A-Level Psychology about learned helplessness. Basically, they had an electified floor and a fence. When the one part of the floor was electrified, the dog jumped. However, when researchers made both parts electrified, the dogs would eventually stop even trying to get away from the shocks, excepting that the pain and misery was how it was. I think the pro-aging trance is in a similarif not identical vein. Until now, no one had been able to conceive a way out of the pain and suffering and everyone just stopped trying to fight it. Although thre are a few individuals like the people on this board who refuse to accept that they were helpless and looked more closely, the majority are just in a trance of learned helplessness.
Also with The Royals in mind, I think we would have to ask how religious they are. If they are in the main practising or at least believing Christians, they may see such interventions as the violation of God's wishes. As far as I'm concerned, if God made us in his own image, God is a creator and so we can mould our own world. I doubt we can make any more of a mess of things given a supposedly caring God also gave us the nasty curses of aging, cancers and all those wonderful genetic disorders.
Perhaps The Royals would be another good outreach target? However, I reckon again that as they are people who occupy a high position in society, someone who has a high position in this organisation should contact them with a nice posh letterheaded message.
With what Mind says, that makes me realize that people like them might be among the first world of the world characters that would be willing to hold up the banner of a cause like this. If they are very religious that might pose a slightly larger road block to it, but I dont think it would be insurmountable. As the news of this cause picks up I wont doubt if they do. We could help see if we can make it happen faster. You know what they say, a person is most likely to start considering something as true when they have heard about it from around 3 or 4 different sources that they view as at least partially credible. Mrszeta already provided the potential for one of those sources to start stacking for some, I bet that often goes a long ways.
Thats right droplet, we want to take away part of the zapping floor for people. When people see that there are growing circles and organizations that dont tell you to accept death, to be brave, to forget about it, that it is inevitable, then we provide places on the floor with out electricity for them to start considering going over too. The next time they have a pang about death, they will have this space on the floor to consider where they can see work being done and guidance and insight on how we can fight it and defeat it.
This topic reminds me of this book which I just came upon recently. It looks like it might help us pull the wool back on what we all really have in store for us in the potential end of life years.
http://www.amazon.co...26479723&sr=8-3 A little awareness in that way, it occurs to me, might cause people in nursing homes and hospice homes and the like to start speaking out more instead of accepting it and preparing to quietly brave their Hiroshimas in a bottle.
Its like, "Hey, you are going to go through an atomic bomb explosion. There will be countless horrors and pains to endure. Zip your lip about it, you just be brave, everybody has to do it, now bite your lip, bear the shock waves of pain and the memories hurricaning through your head as you long bitterly and heavily for them as they slip and fade away, close your eyes and say good night to the universe."
