Please excuse my (perhaps false) arrogance, but I am already near the pinnacle of philosophical greatness. I would like your thoughts on how to improve the type of thinking that involves reasoning on the broadest of levels.

I already do that.

Isn't there a type of training I can do to help plasticize the part of my brain that involves philosophical thinking? Lateral thinking I think it's called.

Learn to meditate and step outside thought. Learn practical/pragmatic thinking & skills. Study math and perhaps physics and cosmology. Divert your attention to less human-centered things, i.e, natural sciences and the universe. In other words, use philosophy as a tool for understanding more interesting things and not an end in itself (a lot of philosophy seems too human/self centered and therefore boring).

Daily half hour meditation. Abstain from any sexual activity for two days and then take entheogens in silent meditation and darkness. Try to let yourself drift into trance states habitually, this is hard to explain unless you're familiar with entheogens.

This is classic shamanic practice for lateral thinking.

I would say you could benefit from CRON, probably meditation.
CR and meditation basically is, what most clerics of the common religions do to have deeper insights and experiance enlightenment.
I guess a bit more insight and some enlightenment wouldn't hurt being a philosopher?

On the other hand shamanic practicies, as hooter suggests. Though I guess CRON and meditation is the healthier option :)

Regarding the sexual abstinence you might find this interesting:

You must use ethogens while using focused random thought. Try to be a personal person with very few conversations daily (meditation forces this). Sexual interactions are only a bad thing if they are social or for extended periods of time. Social interactions disrupt philosophical thinking. I run a blog based on philosophical thinking called neurobrainstorm.com. I use these techniques and in my opinion they work effectively.

DMAE worked for me.

Do you take DMAE on a regular basis? If so, how long have you been taking it and what effects do you notice from it specifically?

Don´t get me wrong. I think DMAE is a terrible noot. But I do consider it promoting philosophical/psychological reflection. Just follow the dosages that come with the bottle.

I am just recommending an abstinence from sexual activity for 2 days before a high dose trip. This does not have to be taken into account with low doses! It's not even mandatory, as long as the sex isn't 'meaningless'. If you engage in sexual activity on the basis of tantra, then it might even be useful.
