Here in UK, certain charities like Age UK and a local hospice run a lottery whereby a modest prize of a few grand can be won...nothing that would allow you to retire but enough to be worth competing (I believe Age UK offers £25,000 and the hospice £10,000). Basically I think that it would be a fun way to donate and the potential of winning a prize would encourage more participants, therefore more donations for the cause and all-important publicity.

I think that the option to play online would be vital, as members are scattered and being open to worldwide participants means more potential donors. Here in UK, we have The National Lottery that can be played online or via brought tickets and a more modestly-prized Health Lottery that donates to local health causes. Perhaps at some point if this were to be successful, Longecity could look towards joining forces with certain retail establishments to sell tickets in real life for those averse to online gambling.

Probably a bit far-fetched but in case i can be done, I'm sharing it. :)

Way to keep your mind open to new possibilities. I investigated the possibility of gaming/gambling for fund raising purposes a couple years ago. Officially, the State of Alabama (in which Longecity is incorporated) does not allow gambling - even though gambling is quite prevalent in the state and government entities often hold raffles and lotteries. In any case, that would be one stumbling block to climb.

Damn! Can you not have a small chapter of Longecity based in another state that does allow gambling to be responsible for it? I know nothing about such laws but it was all that I could think up. I'm suprised that there are western places that do not allow gambling.

I like this idea because it gets the meme out there while raising cash. In Aus, any charity can setup a raffle to raise funds.

Perhaps a group out there or in another country where gambling is legal is a way around it?
