Alcor, like all businesses - especially during this second great depression, has been investigating ways of reducing costs. One source of continuing cost is procuring LN2. Their current contract provider is expensive. They have thought about making their own. It would not seem that difficult but I haven't really looked into the science of producing LN2. It seems fairly simple considering that the atmosphere is almost 80% nitrogen. Alcor is in the desert so one would think that solar powered N2 extraction would be ideal. Considering our ever increasing knowledge of material science and increasing collective shared knowledge, isn't it possible we could come up with a better way of producing LN2? I am just guessing that current industry providers are probably using out-dated expensive methods because it is a niche market upon which they have a strangle-hold. Just throwing the idea out there.

That is a very interesting concept to ponder. I'll help by keeping my eyes open for people I may find in related fields to send to this post.
