Nootropics exam log

About me: Male, 18, college student. I get good grades but my method is highly ineffective, I leave everything to last minute and pull an all-nighter cram session the day before. I still manage to walk away with an A/B in the test but my sleep cycle is constantly changing and I can’t keep doing this. I’ve got some major exam coming up and for the sake of my future, I need to get nothing less than perfect, which I know im capable of, if I can find the strength to study for more than a single night. And that’s when I stumbled across nootropics. Of all the ‘racetams out there, I was only able to get my hands on pramiracetam and noopept, I have a fair amount of each, more than enough to see me through this exam session + plus some choline bitartrate to boot. I eat 3 full meals a day, lots of protein and carbs + drink plenty of water. I also take a multivitamin and fish oils with my main meal. i dont drink, smoke or use any kind of recreational drugs. I gym regularly and take all-in-one protein powder (whey, creatine, etc.). Ive decided to log how things go and will post a daily update for atleast a month, or until the end of January.

day 1 (19/12/12)
single dose consists of:
Pramiracetam:200 mg
Choline bitartrate 300mg
1 dose at 2:45
First day on prami. Shortly after taking, 20 – 30 min or so, localised pain was felt in the brain, not so much of a headache but similar; it was bearable and dissipated shortly after. Certain shades of specific colours appeared more vivid, particularly orange and light blue. Slight improvement in verbal articulation. No other major effects were felt. Didn’t do any work today so I can say if It had any effect on that. im not sure when im going to start taking the noopept, if anyone has any advise about this, it would be welcomed.

Day 2 (20/12/12)
single dose consists of:
pramiracetam: 250 mg
choline bitartrate 400mg
1st dose at 12:35, 2nd at 5:50
I feel awake, more so than I usually do. In addition I feel focussed and alert. Colours have returned to their normal appearance. Reflex’s seem slightly heightened. Not sure if it was the prami or just luck but its’ pick my interest. I’ll look in to how it’s affecting my reflex’s a little further down the line. I’m not sure if prami has anti-axiety/anti-depression properties but im defiantly feeling more joyful and uplifted, more so than usual.

Day 3 (21/12/12)
single dose consists of:
Pramiracetam: 300mg
choline bitartrate: 450mg
1st dose at 1:50, 2nd at 2:35, 3rd at 9:30.
ive stopped increasing the amount of prami / C-BIT per dose but still deciding on number of dose and how often.
After a large carb filled meal, I took my first dose for the day, and set down to do some revision. After a little while of sitting at my desk but not doing anything productive, I took a second dose in hopes that would help me concentrate. And it did. Did about 3 hours of revision today, during the middle of day, which is a miracle in itself considering that I’m on holiday. My brain didn’t feel as stress or tired as it usually does when I study. Im not sure if that’s the prami at work or just because ALL usual my study sessions consists of extreme caffeine fuelled late night cramming sessions. Never the less, I only did half of the work I intended to do, I took the third dose just before attempting to finish off the rest but never managed to start it.

Haven’t expierence any headaches or negative side effects to date. Ive read that prami can make you an emotional zombie, ive had yet to experience this. Granted, I’m not a very social person, but I haven’t find myself acting differently around the people I live with. I’ve also haven’t been doing any socialization on facebook or the likes but I don’t do this on a normal bases anyway so I wouldnt say this was out of the ordinary. I haven’t had any other social interactions apart from that but im going to a gathering tomorrow, ill make note of how things go.

I'm older than you, but pramiracetam and noopept are a great combination for me. I suspect that the emotionally "dulling" of pramiracetam counters the irritability of noopept.

One big difference for me was switching choline intake to 300mg AlphaGPC. Typical dosing consists of:

300mg Alpha Gpc
300mg pramiracetam
10mg noopept

And another 10mg noopept later around noon. When I really need a boost I sometimes add a dose of Oxiracetam - and pull on my T-shirt with a big S ;-)

Where do you get your Alpha-GPC, and is it the 50% or 99% purity?

What choline were you using before?

Thanks

Interesting log

If you're concern about been sociable, then noopept does counteracts this prami side effect -it did for me. However, some people do have drop in libido from noopept use.

the anxiolytic effects of prami seem to be present to a lesser degree than that of ani. If your dosing around 250-300 mg it might take you a few days to get the effect, the thing I'm finding with the prami is that when you stop, part of the effect seems to still be there. Like a change in the baseline, will be looking forward to reading the rest of your log.

I used to take CDP Choline, but finally settled on Alpha GPC from Now foods (1 capsule/day). Note that I take pramiracetam and AlphaGPC after breakfast (with food). Oxiracetam and noopept are always effective irrespective of how I take it.

day 4 (22/12/12)
single dose consists of:
Pramiracetam: 300 mg (first dose only)
Choline bitartrate: 450mg
Noopept: 10mg
Caffeine: 200mg
1st dose at 3:50, 2nd at 8:05

First day on the noopept and honestly, I was expecting more from it. Colours didn’t appear more vivid nor was I tripping on a LSD-reminiscent high. I felt normal more so than when i was on just the prami. One real change I can now attribute to the prami is the unparalleled focus. Even the simplest of tasks, such as looking at a clock or watching t.v. seems to occupy my entire attention span, everything else disappears from world. Great for studying, not so much for passive multitasking. Memory recall also seems to have improved, articles and passages ive only skimmed over seem to be easier to remember a few hours later.

Took the second dose before attending a small gathering and decided to not take the prami to see if it was masking the some of the effects of the noopept. Turns out it was, not so much on the social front, but I did have an unexpected burst of creativity and started carving fruit... Also, while not on the prami, my ability to stare at a clock and listen to the t.v. simultaneously returned. I started feeling a little headache coming on at around 9:20 so I took another 450mg of choline bitartrate at 9:30 and it dissipated shortly after. as for the socializing, i didnt see much of a change, i was a little disappointed.

From what ive experienced so far, I think I might be better off not taking the prami & noopept together. Im gonna keep using today’s stack for the next 2-3 days to see if there are any additional effects. If not, im gonna switch back to only using the prami / noopept when their effects are desired. is this the case for anyone else or should i just give it more time?

day 5 (23/12/12)
single dose consists of:
Pramiracetam: 300 mg
Choline bitartrate: 450mg
Noopept: 10mg
two doses at 3:00
* I should point out that my sleep cycle is way off, i sleep at around 4/5 am and wake up at around 1 pm. So the dose at 3:00 was with my equivalent to breakfast. I will correct this in the days to come.

I decided to double dose to see if I could bring the effects out a little more and like yesterday, I felt normal after taking both the prami and noopept. I couldnt actively feel the stack working but I knew it was because I spent 5 hours working on a project non-stop. If people hadn’t told me to take a break, I probably would have gone on into to the night and finished a week, if not two, worth of work in a single day. There is no shade of doubt left in my mind regarding this stack.

Another thing i experienced yesterday (day 4) but i did not include in the log was an increased sensitivity to light. I usually have 2 lamps on desk to help illuminate the work space but today, even just one was too much for me. In addition, getting out of bed in the morning doesn’t seem to be so difficult any more. No other notable changes to report. I was very happy with the result of today’s stack and I think I might make it my regular dosage.

day 6 (24/12/12)
single dose consists of:
Pramiracetam: 500 mg
Choline bitartrate: 900 mg
Noopept: 20mg
1st dose at 1:20
not much to report today, same stack as yesterday & nothing new. still feeling focussed and alert. the sensitivity to light is starting to get to me but i guess that's the price we pay. recall is good while on the stack but in the later hours when the stack wear's off i notice the effects disappear. I'm thinking of adding a additional smaller dose later in the day to top-up the effects. once again, im very happy with the results of the stack so far.

day 7 (25/12/12) - Merry Christmas All :)
single dose consists of:
Pramiracetam: 500 mg
Choline bitartrate: 900 mg
Noopept: 20mg
1st dose at 2:20, another dose of 500mg pramiacetam at 7:30 before study session
today was just like yesterday, focused and alert while on the stack. ive discovered that noopept makes me really picky about what music i listen to, i went through a playlist of 400 songs and only listened to a handful of them. normally i just let what ever is on play. I didn't experience this while on the prami alone. At least the work is getting done, did about 5 hours of revision today, completed notes for 3 out of 6 chapter for a major exam. the emotional dulling effect of the prami is actually enjoyable in way. if your a really happy and positive person, then it might be undesirable but if your little depressed and anxious, then it's may be welcomed, atleast for me it is.

still no visible negative side effects. in addition to everything else, i think i might try to learn a language while im at it, see if the stack helps with the linguistic learning process. ill include the results of this along with results of the reflex testing later in the log. if anyone has any suggestions or advise, pls feel free to comment.

day 8 (26/12/12)
did things a little differently today, took 1200mg of prami, with rest of yesterday's stack, excluding the noopept. didnt feel much. i think i overshot, damn bell curve. didn't do much due to correcting my sleeping pattern. nothing new to note.

day 9 (27/12/12)
Here things get a little interesting. I finally corrected my sleeping pattern so the timing will hopefully make sense to everyone. also, the logging style needs to be improved a bit, which ill attempt to do in this post.

7:40 AM - Breakfast.
dosage: prami - 900 mg, noopept - 25 mg, choline bitartrate - 1800 mg, caffeine - 300 mg. taken with Multivitamin & fish oil.
I think i've found my optimal dosage :) . it was incredible. within 10 minutes, i was unbelievably focussed and surprisingly creative.
after watching a vid of another nootropic user painting, i wondered if the stack aided my artistic ability and damn it did.
i'll attach a photo of one of the 5 pieces i drew today (when i reach 10 posts). im not normally an artistic person and my abilities are described as average at best but today i felt like Rembrandt! i was drawing from 8am until about 11am, i took a break to get some important stuff done, returned at about 1 pm. by 2 PM, the creative juices has officially stopped flowing. and by 3:30 pm the anxiolytic effects has completely worn off. im not sure if ill take a another half or quarter dose at a later point today. if i do, ill be sure to add it later on.

Not bad, the stack is effective for around 6 hours, fits perfectly into the my school timings. if only i had know about nootropics 6 months ago. :(

day 10 (28/12/12)
7:30 AM - Breakfast.
dosage: prami - 900 mg, noopept - 35 mg, choline bitartrate - 1800 mg, caffeine - 200 mg. taken with Multivitamin & fish oil.
similar dosage to yesterday's and once again focussed and clear minded for 5/6 hours. the only downside is the major difference in character when im on the stack and after it wears off. has anyone got any information on the long term uses of nootropics, particularly the 'racetam family?

As for the revision, definitions and equations memorised while on the stack seems significantly easier to recall after a few repetitions. Also extended trigonometric differentiation & integration seem easier to solve (i.e finding & apply the correct method, from the several hundreds possibilities. in addition, i can now keep track of collisions and their respective moments & momentums without having to check the diagram to confirm the position, speed, etc of the object in a multiple collision question. which is great but will it be enough?

day 11 (29/12/12)
dosage: none

Today I tried something a little different, to go a day without the stack, to see if there are any withdrawal symptoms and etc. primarily to test whether it would be better to do the exams on the stack or off. In general, the day got worse as time when on. i couldnt do any work today. Waking up wasn’t that bad but later in the day I started feeling a little nauseous and my head started to spin, just like it would after getting off a wild rollercoaster. There was no pain, Just dizziness. I threw up after trying to walk a short distance with my spinning head. Judging from this, it will take atleast 2/3 days to wean myself off the stack, until im back to full capacity, 2/3 days which I can’t afford to lose until after the exam period. So I guess, I’ll be on the stack for the next 3 weeks. I just hope my supply will last until then.

I'm planning to upgrading the choline source of the stack as soon as I can, replacing choline bitartrate with CDP choline and Alpha GPC, with the addition of huperzine a. if anyone has any suggestions, pls feel free to post your opinions.

I'm taking a similar course excluding the MSG & desloratadine & I only experienced dizziness 34 hours after the last dose. so far, this is the first and only incident of dizziness & hopefully this is an isolated case. do you experience dizziness regularly / under certain conditions?

Day 12 (30/12/12)
It’s the 12th day on the prami and 9th on the noopept, by now the cumulative effects of the stack should have been accumulated. Time is running out and I want to try to push stack to its absolute limit and past that if possible so in the next few days I’ll be trying out various ways to optimise the stack.
Got nothing else planned for today aside from revision and a work out.

7:50 am – breakfast,
Dosage: pramiracetam 900mg, noopept 25mg, choline bitartrate 1350mg, caffeine 200mg. taken with fish oils.
Feeling very alert and focussed as normal, sat down to do to some revision, from 8 till 12. What else can I say, the work is getting done with ease. I can’t ask for anything more. Went to work out, returned at around 2 pm.

3:15 pm – lunch,
Dosage: pramiracetam 600mg, noopept 25mg, choline bitartrate 900mg, caffeine 200mg. taken with fish oils.
Not much to describe, clear minded & relaxed but not extremely focussed.
Watched limitless at around 7 pm, it seemed appropriate at the time.

10:45 pm – dinner
Dosage: pramiracetam 300mg, noopept 10mg, choline bitartrate 900mg, taken with fish oils.
Top up dose taken with hopes of doing some last minute revision but no such revision was done.

The cascading dosage throughout the day is only marginally more effective, granted I enjoyed being clear minded for the entirety of the day but after around 5/6pm, I didn’t feel focused or motivated to work at all, even after the little top up dose at 10:45. Ultimately, the cascade can be effective under the right conditions; I just have to determine what those conditions are.

Day 13 (31/12/12)

Today I’m going try a single megadose (upper daily limit) with breakfast and see where it goes from there. I’ll keep track of today’s event more closely than normal to help differentiate between the subtleties and integrate them into a more effective way to optimise the stack. This is the first time taking a dose of noopept greater than 35mg, so I’ll be watching that very closely. I also read somewhere that certain choline sources/stacks may raise blood pressure so I’ll be monitoring that throughout the day.

7:35 am – breakfast.
Dosage: pramiracetam 1200mg, noopept 50mg, choline bitartrate 2300 mg, caffeine 350mg. taken with fish oils.
High-carb and protein loaded meal. Got high hopes for today.

8:10 am
Resting Heart rate is at 62 bpm & blood pressure is 135 over 65. For those out there who don’t have a M.D., The heart rate is perfectly fine & the systolic pressure (135) is a little high, but given my particular medical history it’s expected. Nothing out of the ordinary so far.

10:30 am
So I finally found that LSD-reminiscent trip that I was expecting from the noopept. Colours are really vivid, almost unnaturally; particularly blue, green and orange. Plus lots of creative epiphanies, as would be expected from a dose this high. If only I was an artist or a fiction writer, then my life would be sorted. The bright colours and creativity doesn’t really help much when it comes to solving logarithms. L

1:00 pm
Colours are now much less vivid and stunning. Understandable, it’s approaching 6 hours since the last dose. The prami is still active as far as I can tell. RHR is 65 BMP & BP is 150 over 55, systolic is still quite high but not high enough to raise concern.

2:45 pm
The prami has worn off.

9:00 pm
RHR is at 64, BP is 139 over 78. Its remained fairly stable though out the day so no worries there.

11:40 pm
Dosage: noopept 35mg, choline 450 mg, taken with fish oils on empty stomach.
I know it’s going over my day intake limit but why not, maybe I’ll enjoy the fireworks a little more with the noopept.

12:00 am – Happy New year!

So it appears that above a certain dosage threshold, the half-life doesn't increase. So regardless of dosage, the effects won’t last any longer than 6 or so hours, so mega dosing like this is ultimately a waste, the same (noticeable) results can be achieved on my regular dosage, excluding those experienced from the noopept (enjoyable, yes, but these not contribute to my exam success). Maybe there’s more going on behind the scenes but I don’t have the time uncover it all. All in all, I’ll try to make the most of what I have and hopefully, it will be a good start to the year. :)

Very nice log, I commend you for staying consistent with it.
I am too just starting with nootropics and have purchased every type of racetam under the sun.

I hope to experiment like you and find the optimal stack.
I have had some not-so-effective experiences with modafinil so I hope at least one combination will work with me.
What are the main differences you are experiencing between noopept and pramiracetam?

Good luck with your exams and keep posting with your current stack.
It will be interesting what you decide to take before the exam.

Day 14 (1/1/13)
Hey everyone, Hope you had a great new years.
I realised that my choline intake has been a little on the high side recently, so im going to try today’s dosages without any choline.

6:25 am
Woke up, went for a 45 min jog, then off to cook breakfast.

8:30 am – breakfast
Dosage: pramiracetam 600 mg, noopept 25mg, caffeine 200mg, taken with fish oils.

10:10 am
Dosage: noopept 10mg, caffeine 100mg, taken with fish oils & a granola bar.
Quick top up dose before going out.

11:30 am
Had an eye test for my driver’s license, got 19/20 right on the first attempt, confused K with a E on the penultimate letter, got it right on second guess. It was a clear pass but the letters were kind of blurry, I thought my eyesight was better than that.

5:00 pm
Retested my eye sight once the stack had cleared my system. Much better than before. This suggests that noopept makes focusing on small objects from a distant more difficult, for me atleast. But this is not solid evidence. I’ll retest myself tomorrow; before taking the stack, while on the stack and after it has worn off. To give myself a more accurate understanding of this new situation.

Despite not taking any choline, I didn’t feel any different than I did with the choline. Granted, this is not an accurate reflection of my reaction to the stack without choline as my Ach levels were already pretty high due to the excessive intake of Cho-Bitart in recent days. I have no idea what im going to be doing tomorrow, i'll revert to the regular dosages and see where it goes.

Well, here's advice you'll probably ignore but I'll say it anyway. If I was 18 and had this high of a BP level I'd be less interested in nootropic experimentation and more interested in lowering BP experimentation.

Great log! I've been keeping one as well as I test out Aniracetam. Keep it up. Have you noticed any negative side effects from the Noopept. I know your taking higher than recommended doses even though everyone has a different limit, but just curious. Awesome log!

Thanks,

For me, Pramiracetam has more of a passive effect, you won’t feel different, you will just be different. its leaves you clear minded - you know what you need to do and how to do it. And if the task you’re performing is engaging enough, it will give you razor sharp focus and concentration. It also has some anxiolytic effects, while not as potent as aniracetam, it gets the job done for me. I would highly recommend it as the basis for any study oriented stack.

Noopept on the other hand has more of an active effect, colours appear more vibrant, it makes you really social and creative. it also increases your sensitivity to light, which in turn may dilate your pupils. Great for socializing, relaxing, being artistic & creative writing. Beware; it may create distractions if you’re doing boring / tedious work.

Taking them together cover almost all my bases. Reduces anxiety, make me more sociable and increases concentration. everything i need and more. :)

Was your BP this high prior to your experimentation?

yes it was, i'm pre-hypertensive and have a family history of hypertension. so its not a major difference between my normal BP.

Well, here's advice you'll probably ignore but I'll say it anyway. If I was 18 and had this high of a BP level I'd be less interested in nootropic experimentation and more interested in lowering BP experimentation.

Thanks for the concern and i do appreciate it wholeheartedly.
at the moment, i am actively trying to keep my BP as low as possible,
im 5'8", 67kg, exercise regularly and eat healthy - im about as fit and healthy as someone my age can possibly be.
the factors which contribute to my high BP that are not under my control are genetics and stress, once of which, of course i cant change but the other is one of the reason i started nootropics in the first place.

This is the most vital year for me in terms of education and future prospects and all the stresses in my life stems from this. my ultimate goal from nootropics is to get good grades so i don't have to be stressed out about my future, making my life easier, in turn reducing stress which then in turn reduced my BP.

I know its a more complicated than that and there are a lot of if's and but's but this seems to be the best way forward for me and If nootropics can reduce my exam stress then im going to try them.
once again, thanks for the concern.

No general plan for today. Taken into account what sthira said, ill be monitoring my heart rate for a little while longer.

8:20 am
Just woke up, BP is 124/71.

10:30 am
Eye test results; 39 / 40 correct on first attempt, confused H with R on the smallest font size. All seems well here.

10:45 am.
Dosage: pramiracetam 900mg, noopept 35mg, choline bitartrate 1300mg. taken with fish oils.
BP before taking stack,136/61.

11:25 am
The stack should be in my system by now. BP is 118/82. That’s quite low…
2nd Eye test results; 37 / 40 correct on first attempt.
Not as good as before but I guess the slight variation is due to the sensitivity to light. The size of your pupils are determined but the amount of light in your surroundings however if your sensitivity to light is increased, then for an equal amount of light, your pupils will be smaller than they normally would, so less detail can be seen. This is probably not 100% medically accurate but it seems to explain things quite nicely. Regardless, the 3 letters I got wrong were only 4mm in size and were read from 3 meters away, so I don’t see how this could affect quality of life.

4:45 pm
BP is 129 / 68

5:00 pm
Dosage: pramiracetam 300mg, caffeine 100mg, taken with olive oil.
Top up dose, didn’t really feel any different in the hours that followed. Maybe the dose was too small.

So today was uneventful. The next school term begins on the 6th. In the first week back, that’s when I’ll see how effect is the stack really is. My apologizes if the log is a little dull right but stay tuned in until then.
