Methylglyoxal (MGO) is the major antibacterial component of mānuka honey.[8]

Why methylglyoxal is produced remains unknown, but several articles indicate it may be involved in the formation of advanced glycation endproducts (AGEs).[4] In this process, methylglyoxal reacts with free amino groups of lysine and arginine and with thiol groups of cysteine, forming AGEs. Recent research has identified heat shock protein 27 (Hsp27) as a specific target of posttranslational modification by methylglyoxal in human metastatic melanoma cells.[5] Other glycation agents include the reducing sugars:

so... in plain english please? I've spread it on a scratches to the face i got from falling on asphalt, and it seriously helped to heal quickly and cleanly, less than a week today actually and all scratches removed, just slight pink in some areas and will continue until complete gone and ive been ingesting the rest left over after each dip of the spoon

i thought scientists still are not sure, but ive heard natural doctors prescribe for digestion issues and so on, and great topically for healing of scrapes and cuts
