I'm wondering what mechanisms contribute to the age-related increase in blood pressure?

  • Increased arterial stiffness from glycation
  • Vascular calcification

What else?

Can we say another cause is cumulative oxidative damage to blood vessels?

Does angiotensin rise with age?

Thanks.

IMO it is very complex relation with many, many factors.

Examples:

Low sex hormones --> low dopamine activity-->more prolactin-->more vasopressin (prolactin directly stimulate vasopressin synthesis)

Worse mitochondria function--> endothelial dysfunction

Pathological insulin resistance --> Worse mitochondria function(...)

Another cause is portal hypertension due to liver disease. This affects the blood pressure throughout.
