Why eat small portions?

So I notice everyone who at least looks half their age, says they eat healthy and eats

small portions or modifys their calorie intake by somewhat while of course getting all vitamins and stuff.

Soo... why eat small portions? Like why eat 6 meals a day instead of larger meals. Someone tell me, is it because

of oxidative stress caused by eating or is it because of nutrient absorption or what?? Confused.

There are many different theories on this. I don't think you will find a solid answer.

 

Eating a large meal will typically cause your blood glucose to spike, which many people consider a bad thing.

 

On the other hand, I know some people who fast for about 20 hours a day (to upregulate autophagy) and then eat a couple of larger meals within the course of 4 hours.

 

The main point is to figure out the best way to cut calories. This is very difficult for most people. Some people find it easier to reduce caloric intake by eating several small meals.

You want to keep your stomach 3/4 to 1/4 full throughout the day. Feeding every 3 hours, this amounts to six meals a day. Eating this way boosts your metabolism due to the thermic effect of food and your level of hunger will lessen while your energy level will rise if you eat the six meals a day. It also means a steady output of insulin which is good for muscle growth and glycogen stores. Hope this helped.

I know from reading the Tim Ferris blog that smaller meals compared to larger meals have no impact on metabolism.

 

Apart from the past 100 years, it was common for us to eat the biggest meal in the morning and small snacks through the rest of the day, allowing our bodies to digest the food before sleeping.
