I've tried piracetam, aniracetam, oxiracetam, pramiracetam, noopept, pregnenolone, resveratrol, alcar, ashwagandha (and all other popular herbs), ashitaba, etc, and none have had any effect. Nothing. Is this normal? What do you recommend someone like me try next? Should I just give up?

I'm mainly trying to improve cognition (speed, creativity, "IQ," memory) and drive to do things. I don't need a stimulant, or focus enhancer.

Tell us more about yourself - do you have any neuropsychiatric diagnoses? Any sort of brain-damage or disease? Do you suffer from depression or anhedonia? Work-related burnout?

What sort of tasks do you want to perform?

Sports?
Maths?
Arts?

Programming?

And if you have done some kind of genetic testing, then that info would be useful as well - it might give us clues as to what perticular compounds to avoid, or to suggest.

I don't have any brain damage that I'm aware of. I'm a Software Engineer. I haven't done any genetic testing.

All right, so you want to do programming-work - lots of logic and such.

How do you respond to L-theanine and caffeine? Do you notice anything when you drink coffee? If you do, consider to get Caffeine-tablets - it's still the tried and true original nootropic. Consider getting some compounds to counteract the peripheral effect of Caffeine if you do respond to it - it will help when you take higher doses.

Btw, I definitely think you should do some genetic testing - yes, they're not entirely reliable, but you would find out if you're a slow or fast metabolizer of certain compounds and such - you can even find out if you're a non-responder to Modafinil as well.

IMHO, it would help you, somewhat, to figure out which compounds might have an effect on you.

There's another Racetam you haven't tried as well, btw - FASOracetam. It's somewhat similar to Oxiracetam, but also slightly activating - it was being researched for the treatment of ADHD actually, but it seems like the results were dissapointing in that regard.

Caffeine makes me drowsy, groggy, or fall asleep.

Have you tried modafinil, or ritalin/adderall? I realise that you don't want to take stimulants, but as it stands now it is unrealistic to expect 'true' IQ increases to occur from taking any supplement e.g piracetam, etc.

Stimulants would make you feel like you were smarter, however, as they do increase your working memory for the time you are on them (alongside focus, drive, etc.) They are often used by programmers so I really would

recommend giving them a try.

Bacopa and 1200mg of dha from fish oil are the only 2 things that give me any cognitive enhancement, I've tried almost everything else like you.

See if those work out.

I used to drink tons of green tea to stay sharp, which generally gave a nice boost but didn't always consistently work.

Nowadays I take creatine every day, I noticed when taking it for exercising that there was a profound effect on cognition, for me. I recommend Optimum Nutrition powder or Life Extension capsules.

Another thing I found useful these past weeks, a quarter pill (1.25mg) of memantine, I use the sun pharma generics. I had a really stressful time lately and I've been coping extremely well, the memantine seemed to make me respond much better to hard situations, where my verbal fluency and quick thinking was as great as it's even been. I'm a really big memantine responder though.
