The topics of serious threats to a globalized world and eventually to civilization everywhere on Earth have been broached before on this forum, but I don't think there are any topics at this time discussing the fates of modern science and medicine in this context. More specifically, I am not aware of any discussions on the future of longevity and cryonics research post-collapse. (AI/Singularity research may be good to comment on as well, though they are not fields with which I have any familiarity.)
What would be necessary to maintain these endeavors, assuming there is no longer a globalized commerce system (and possibly no Internet) and the only energy and raw materials available are from renewable resources? I'm assuming that any regions in which such research would continue to be conducted are an appreciable distance from areas of possible nuclear strikes, plant failures, or armed conflict.
