This is old information. Trechalose has cryoprotective properties. It is not used for people. I don't know why.

This is why I started this thread. Trehalose is available economically since 2000. It is a molecule similar to sucrose and seem not being a problem in regard of biocompatibility. Insects and micro-animals use it as a cryptobiotic agent.
The intend was if anybody is aware of its experimental use as a cryoprotectant.

It could be that Trehalose just helps balance glutamate by stabilizing S-adenosyl-l-methionine. Shiitake mushrooms are a soucre of Trehalose.
