    True, government funding will always outweigh private. Plus, of course, people will rather fund other more topical forms of research to appear more charitable/altruistic, rather than what may be perceived as "selfish" research as it would benefit themselves. Or what do you think?

    One major reason for charitable giving is to salvage reputations, and donating to your average charity works better for that purpose, I think.
