I love  acetyl-glutathione. It is the proper form for bio-availability and should not break down in the stomach and should be absorbed in the intestines. Since we should be making 250 -ish mg of glutathione a day why is it that most of us only make 35 mg a day?

So I took NAC and glutathione reduced but they dont seem to be working .. I wonderd why then I saw this:

Acetylglutathione

Acetylglutathione is orally active, unlike plain glutathione, and is stable in the intestine and plasma when absorbed and delivered directly to the cells for natural de-acetylation intracellularly. Plain glutathione delivered to the plasma by precursors, liposomal products or intravenously must be broken down by enzymes to the basic amino acid components for absorption into the cell and require more energy expenditure to be re-constructed back to rGSH. It is known that disease states can block the re-assimilation of components into rGSH. Therefore, it is a better dietary/therapeutic decision to provide the orally active and absorbed Acetylglutathione which increases intracellular rGSH directly and naturally without increased energy expenditure and without being compromised from disease states.[7],[8]

So I have to take acetyl-glutathione...

Acetyl Glutathione is more lipophilic than plain glutathione, sufficiently so to be taken up intact by cells, and has been shown to rapidly raise intracellular GSH levels.[19],[20]

S-Acetylglutathione is able to increase intracellular-SH groups as reported by Vogel et al. ,[21] is more stable in blood plasma than GSH, and enters the cells directly, where it is converted to reduced glutathione by the abundant cytoplasm thioesterases.

The conclusion at this stage is that an alternative to the current oral and IV options may be found in the acetyletaed form of glutathione, and if further analysis and clinical experiences continue to support this as a valid clinical strategy, there will be many patients very pleased to have access to such a simple strategy to enhance GSH levels where required.

Reduced glutathione, L-glutathione/glutathione is quickly broken down into the 3 amino acids in the digestive system, So the body still has to synthetize glutathione on its own from it which people with certain genes cant. So  if you were taking a form of glutathione which can get into the bloodstream intact like acetyl-glutathione or liposomal glutathione then you get glutathione directly and it doesent get broken down. Even with NAC your body still has to synthetize it to glutathione so its not really that effective.

note: "Nrf2"   when activated tells the cell to make more antioxidant enzymes. Sulforaphane  and curcumin are Nrf2 inducers.

spirulina at 5g is an great antioxidant too.

n-acetylcysteine amide (NACA)

is apparantly a better version but cant find clean sources

btw anyone tried Jarrows NAC? it its sustained release , how long does the effect of jarrows sustained release last?

I wish someone knew of a reliable source for NACA, eyedrops or oral, since i have premature cataract formation.

Or a supplement that is a combination of NAC and S Acetyl Glutathione, would that work better than NAC alone?

What is the best currently available form or combination of NAC?
