There are so many conflicting studies on the optimal ratio between the two. DHA is linked to more neuroprotective and cognitive benefits where EPA is linked more to inflammation one lipids. Then some studies say algal derived omegas are better:

But then that’s contradicted here:

If the overall goal is neuroprotection and reduction of oxidative stress what amounts, ratio and brand would you recommend? Thanks

4:1 DHA:EPA. It's easier for the body to convert DHA to EPA than vice versa. EPA > DHA is preferred when treating depression, but even vitamin D + magnesium is usually better.

Add vitamin E (2 IU/g) and iodine/iodide (1,000 mcg/g) when taking PUFAs.

Doctor's Best DHA 500 and Nature's Way Mega-DHA are good.

That’s what I read is well but then again I read the American diet typically has too much omega 6

Balancing omega-6:omega-3 is the main reason to supplement fish oil. For most other things, there are better approaches/supplements. That is, you could also lower omega-6 intake.

I've read a lot of recent studies that hold EPA-only superior for cognitive effects, but I haven't read many personal testimonies supporting that.

i also read a lot of recent articles saying more EPA than DHA is actually more beneficial, for overall health but especially brain. yet, its still not 100% conclusive so, things might go either way in the future. very confusing indeed

I always thought it was more beneficial to get more DHA. I’ve been using 3g 2x/day(6g total) of NOW’s DHA 500
(500g DHA/250g EPA)

I've yet to gain benefits from the standard 1.5:1 EPA:DHA fish oils.  I just got my pure EPA capsules in that I will experiment with.  I am trying to ameliorate sluggish cognitive tempo symptoms somehow and will update the forum if I get positive results.

EPA > DHA is better when fighting depression. Otherwise, DHA > EPA.
