Ascorbic acid causes zero concerns.
Calcium ascorbate gives me heartburn.

One reason for heartburn can be low stomach acid. By low acid the sphincter isn't closing as it should.
Relative to AA, CA will raise the pH more and lower the acid further.
However, actually in this case anything without acitity should cause heartburn. Even water.
