Our next guest on the Longecity podcast is Dr. Andrzej Bartke, Professor and Director of the Division of Geriatrics Research at Southern Illinois University.
Dr. Bartke’s most recent research has focused on the hormonal and genetic control of ageing, particularly on the mechanisms by which the loss of growth hormone extends lifespan in mice. His laboratory was the first to show that mutation of a single gene can extend mammalian longevity and to suggest that the remarkable increase in the lifespan of Ames dwarf mice is due to growth hormone (GH) deficiency.
Alongside his work at SIU, he is also on the Editorial Board of Aging Cell, Endokrynologia Polska (Polish Journal of Endocrinology), Mechanisms of Ageing and Development,Reproductive Biology, Polish Soc. for Biology of Reproduction, andJournal of Gerontology/Biological Sciences, and is a Board Member (and past President) of the American Aging Association.
