Any Chemistry Experts? Need Help Neutraliz...

marshmellow's Photo marshmellow 20 Apr 2022

I need to neutralize pure DMAE (liquid base, pH 11) with pure Citric Acid (Monohydrate powder, pH 2-3). To make a 100ml mixture. Ultimately for 10 drops or 0.5ml.

One molecule of pure Citric Acid reacts with 2 molecules of pure DMAE. The molar mass of Citric Acid Monohydrate is 210g/mol, and DMAE is 89g/mol.

If I have 100ml of pure liquid DMAE, how do I calculate how much pure Citric Acid Monohydrate powder I would need to neutralize it?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

By no means a chemistry expert but in this case I would simply titrate the Citric Acid into 80ml of the DMAE liquid - check at regular intervals with pH strips.

Thank you for the reply. That's brilliant actually, that's probably what I'll end up doing.

Did you go with 80ml since maybe the final titrated solution with the Citric Acid would add up to the desired 100ml? Or for some other reason?

Thanks again.

That exactly, including the "maybe" ;)
