I had met Tim during one of my visits to the CR Society meetings around 2015 or so. Sorry to hear of his passing.

https://www.legacy.c...09103#guestbook

I don't know who filled his shoes as the web master for the CR Society site.

Bob Cavanaugh

Sept 15, 2023: I recently learned of Tim's passing and offer my condolences to his family. Tom was the webmaster for the Calorie Restriction Society for over two decades. Though I had infrequent contact with Tim, and then only by phone, I knew him to be honest, level headed and dependable. He was a valuable asset to the nonprofit organization and is already sorely missed. Rest in peace my trusted friend.

Bob Cavanaugh
Chair: C R Society International

What was Tim's old email? I need the old webmaster's email when contacting invisionboard support to help maintain the forum's continuity.

  • What if I let my license expire?

Standard: If we host your community and your license expires, your community will no longer be online until the invoice is brought up-to-date. Please reach out to us if you need help accessing the invoice.

Self-hosted: If you host your community and your license expires, your community will no longer have access to our support forums or software updates. In the event something breaks, or a critical security/platform update is issued, your invoice must be paid prior to you re-gaining entry into the support community or getting access to updates.

Please keep your license active to remain in good standing and protect your community.

https://invisioncomm...expires-really/

Does anyone know how to pay the invoice? They still host for roughly a month after invoice expires but it has been one month and we still haven't gotten transfer of ownership. The archives were truly truly valuable goddamnit, I'll pay for the new year

I read and occasionally contributed to conversations on the site for I believe 20 years. Nobody knows what happened to it? This is really odd.

I've been wondering the same thing Gordo. If anyone happens to know, an update would be great. I wonder if Dean Pomerleau knows anything.

When did it came back for a little while again, and then back down?

Can someone please push Brian Delaney on this issue? He said he would look into it, but has been pounded again and again and has kept delaying (from december, then to early march, then I don't know when)

The domain expires April 15, which makes this especially urgent. The invisionforum might still be alive even when the domain is not.

When it was available I captured the nslookup and now I used hosts file to enter the ip addresses resolved previously. Perhaps sni for tls makes it work - despite I am talking to the cloudflare’s endpoint close to me while asking for www.crsociety.org 2 I am served correctly and can access the forums, except the authoritative dns all other things are working.

But this is definitely is not the way to go for the most of the users. The problem is with these authoritative dns servers, they are not responding with dns service right now, perhaps something is not ok with them. Unless somebody will either make them work or the owner re-register and reconfigure the name resolution configuration of the domain things will not work normally - cloudflare’s resolver wants to have an authoritative answer before it will also resolve it (a dns proxy service of cf).

It is easy to cross-check what I mean with dns - use dig @1.1.1.1 or a tool @ https://freedns.afra... 1
For the cf’s endpoint close to the user maybe any other cf’-served site (there is a plethora of them) could be resolved and pasted to local hosts file

Br,
Igor

I will contact some people familiar with the situation and see if we can bring it back in some form or another.

Yes please do, at least make sure the invisionforum still remains alive.

Btw, Brian Delaney's email is Brian@brianmdelaney.org [will remove this when situation becomes less urgent]

There might be some discussion that we could hand over control of crsociety.org to longecity.org?

It felt like the site was neglected for years. Yes, Tim maintained it, but every time it would go down, I always had to reach out to people to get them to sort it out or it would be down for days or longer.

I hope it comes back. Why is it difficult for someone to take it over?

From what I can tell, no one who’s still alive seems to have the login credentials (usernames/passwords) needed to manage the CR Society accounts. It’s strange — the site briefly came back online for a few weeks, then disappeared again without any explanation. My guess is that someone might have temporarily paid the hosting bill, but once it became overdue again, the site went offline.

The financial situation could be the root of the issue. I believe the organization's funds are in an account that no one currently has access to — either that, or something else happened that I don’t want to speculate about. When the site was briefly back online, Dean mentioned that there should be enough funds in the CR Society account to cover hosting for several more years.

Nonprofits are required to have a board of directors. I don’t believe every board member is deceased — though I could be wrong — but if any are still around, their names should be on file somewhere. Maybe someone here knows who they were. In theory, the board should be able to regain access to the funds and either set up autopay for the hosting or coordinate a transfer of the forum to LongeCity — something Dean also mentioned as a possible plan during the brief return of the forum. If all the funds are gone though, its probably not coming back, however it would be nice to know what the cost is, maybe some of us would chip in to keep it going.

Thanks for the update Gordo and for sharing what you know about the CR Society. Are some of the great contributors like you and Dean still active anywhere else?

I'm not sure if this is another nail in the coffin for the CR Society, but it used to show up in Google Search results, even if the site didn't work. It now no longer shows up at all.

Doesn't mean anything. It was down for longer between June and October of last year. Images uploaded to the forum that exist on content.cicinvision.com still work

It just means that it isn't indexed by Google anymore. If the technical issues are fixed, it will be indexed quickly. Though it might take some time now for it to rank in the SERPs.

It's absurd that it has taken this long. It must be related to money issues and/or those who have access now aren't that bothered.

Once control was transferred, it shouldn't take so long to configure the DNS correctly. And at most hours to days for full DNS propagation. Definitely not months...

It's a shame that so much information from the forum is no longer accessible. And the old CR email archives.
