I'm still a fan of Durk Pearson & Sandy Shaw's BLAST. They make several varieties of this, with and without caffiene. I've been using one or another of their energy drink mixes since about 1990.

In additional to a dozen or more vitamins, it also contains:

L-Phenylalanine 600 mg *

Taurine 200 mg *

Glycine 150 mg *

Caffeine 80 mg *

Polyphenols (from red tea) 50 mg

I find that one in the morning will last me through noon and another about an hour after I've had lunch will get me through early evening without the normal afternoon drowsiness. If I REALLY need energy I can take a double dose in the morning. It's sweetened with a little fructose, so that the slight increase in blood sugar helps the amino acids cross the blood brain barrier. The L-Phenylalanine has prevented me from getting the "jitters" even when I'm on my third serving for the day.

hmm my ideal energy drink would be pure blueberry juice sweetened only with xlitol. I would then add some EGCG, and maybe put in four times the amount of theanine and caffeine that is in greentea in the ratio.

I'd also maybe add some theobromine after that, oh and a big hit of piracetam, like 4 grams.

I never use energy drinks, and really don't see the point. Forgive my ignorance on this topic, I'm only 47, so maybe I just haven't reached the age yet where I'll start feeling low on energy during the day. Here's the wacky thing I do for energy: I eat. About once every 3 or so hours.

But in any case, it seems to me an energy drink MUST contain energy, and therefore should contain glucose (not sugar--fructose should be avoided).

What am I missing here???

what youre missing is that most people confuse the balanced energy levels that come from good sleeping, exercise & eating habits w/ the hyper-stimulation of caffeine.

Agreed. Energy drinks are so 1999. We've got pills for that kind of stuff, now.

Actually Plain ol' monohydrate has recently been shown to be superior than CEE. The basic stands the test of time.

Any word on "Kre-Alkayln" = PH-buffered (12) Creatine Monohydrate? The marketing suggests that it will significantly delay the conversion to creatinine, but of course... it's marketing. I'm currently trying this out, but I lack a regular workout schedule so I'm not a good test subject.

I use a general MRP drink of my own making for 4 of my 7 daily meals. It contains the following:

8 oz. organic nonfat milk
100cc LEF chocolate whey protein
1.5 tsp. Udo's Choice oil
1 tsp. Nature's Way hemp oil
1 tsp. organic raw almond butter
sometimes 0.5 tsp. Jarrow organic coconut oil
10-35cc instant oat powder taken separately in water

I drink this every 140 minutes during the day and maintain my body weight at around 178 lbs. I don't feel hungry between drinkings. :)

My understanding is that it is Chinese-sourced creatine that has contaminant issues like all Chinese creatine. But I would be glad to be corrected.

I like how it's come to blunt, tough-love from the senior members here. Keep up the good work.

I personally have had times where all I've consumed at one sitting between meals was some raw turnip an -voila - more energy. In terms of TCM, turnip helps remediate Qi Stagnation and also removes Phlegm and Dampness; all of these factors lead to "lower energy" and "fatigue" in those with such tendencies anchored in a combination of poor diet, lifestyle, and congenital factors. I've also -not- received the same benefits at other times. It's about the internal profile and sequence at the time of event. For example, green tea: there are times when it gives an energy boost but also times when it is clinically contraindicated. We've all heard from people that have bad reactions to the "weak stuff" like that in green tea; TCM has those reasons understood.

You really need to rethink what it is you're physiologically altering to engender "more energy" with supps/herbs/drinks/food/lifestyle. "Stimulation" by stimulants is... a simplisitic, ham-fisted approach akin to drinking more and more coffee throughout the day to "get by". Perhaps it's the nature of your "day" that is leading you into need of such palliatives.

My favorite energy drink:

50-100mg Modafinil in WATER (the water makes it a drink :) )

or if you want to get fancy and more "natural" whatever that means perhaps it means OTC nowadays

100mg caffeine
750 mg ALCAR
500 mg ALA
500-1g Tyrosine
500 mg 95% Green Tea Extract
1 g 18-22% Olive Leaf Extract
.....all in WATER

Tonify, tonify, tonify!

Just turn the water pressure UP when the plumbing is waning.

your list sounds interesting. i'm attempted w/ the simpler things, like you say, mixing 50-100mg modafinil powder in water.

or do your mix of 100mg of caffeine powder/pill, other extracts you listed, all mixed with water or take with green tea

It might sound a little disgusting, but I promise it tastes good and provides a lot of nutrition..

Coconut milk
1 Egg yolk
1 T. maca powder
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon Carlson fish oil
Raw Honey

Coconut milk is a great energy source, as is maca. The egg will provide protein, choline, and arachidonic acid (which helps promote dopamine release). Cinnamon provides the oligomeric procyanidins that make red wine a healthy beverage, and the fish oil provides heart-healthy and metabolism-boosting omega 3's. For more about the procyanidin contents of various foods and their benefits, see "3 Ways to Dramatically Improve your Health and Diet." Honey for simple carbs.
