Does anyone know of any remedies, supplements or creams that can decrease the impact on joints (esp. knees) from longterm exercise? (I run/jog on grass often...but never on concrete)

Omega-3 made a big difference in how my joints, especially me knees, feel.

You might also consider taking up biking instead of running.

To minize joint impact I purchased a soft-deck treadmill and some competent footwear--Asics Gel. In the future, I plan on mixing it up with some biking.

Thanks kenj,
I got back into running after a 3 month break. My shins started hurting a lot. Guess it was cause i wasn't stretching them :)

I have been incorporating biking and high intensity interval training into my workout regimen. I can't tell whether or not it is helping me since it has only been a few weeks, but I will say that it is less monotonous. Thanks everyone.

swimming is the best sport for the seniors because it is cardio and low-impact for the joints - even if chlorine might be toxic, you need to shower before and after swimming anyway and with some good breathing technique, you won't inhale (too much) of it
it may not replace weightlifting for preventing osteoporosis (but your risk is low as a male), but it uses all your muscles - how can you get more efficient than that?

Anything that causes injuries that become chronically painful. This may happen with pretty much any type of exercise, and avoiding them depends crucially on preparation amd ecercising smartly, but it also depends to an extent on being lucky, sad to say.
