What are you doing guys [:o] !!  You know, there are also girls in this forum.
I wonder if they come frequently to visit this thread.  It would be funny if we ask them "how frequently do you come to this thread?"
I think they should participate in this topic and show us their little (or big) victoria secrets. [lol]

I was thinking very much the same thing about girls visiting this thread, most likely thinking WTF.

No,no,no guys we are fine. Interresting !!!

It's just strange how differents peoples are, i feel more frustrations in masturbation. And i don't think my brain is systematicaly connected to my heart...

i happen to agree with funk on this one... overindulgence in 'standard masturbation' (stimulate visually with porn, cum as quick as possible) ultimately decreases your ability to perform with and enjoy a real woman by training your brain only to become aroused through visual means and to achieve orgasm as quickly as possible.

Who said anything about overindulgence in porn or achieving orgasm as quickly as possible? As I said earlier in this thread (and this kind of confirms it again), in my experience many guys apparently don't know how to masturbate right.

you missed the prefixed 'standard'... lets be real here, 99.99% of guys are not using masturbation as an artform or some method of self-actualization...they are just trying to get off real quick.

Well don't hold it in either.

I was in jail once for about 40 days with no um... release so to speak, I was released and had one of the most scary experiences of my life, as soon as I got out, I was with my (now ex) wife, and everything was pretty normal, but I realized after the fact that I had blood in my semen, which completely freaked me out ( I damn near had a coronary). I didn't say anything and went to the doctor the next day to have any and all prostate exams done, thinking I probably had cancer or something like that. Well all the tests came back negative and it has never happened again, of course as a free range animal there is no way I would go 40 or 45 days without some kind of release, but in prison, well it's different. So my advice is use it don't abuse it, yes it can put you a little more on your game if you go a week or 10 days, as long as you can go crazy for a weekend afterwards, but NEVER EVER do what I did, do not store that stuff. Love is something if you give it away you end up having more ;-)

I am curious as to why you think most guys just try to get off quick. If true, this is truly strange to me, as anyone who has the slightest bit of imagination will have experimented just a little and will know that (1) if you delay a little, getting off will be more intense, and (2) getting off is not even the main point as far as pleasure is concerned.

I love this thread, I just got back from my Adult Human Sexuality class--held at my church, so I've been talking sex for two hours ;)

But, I'm not a guy--been with guys for long time though and have read a whole lot on sex. Over all I've come to adopt a sex every day for health and longevity attitude from the various studies I've seen.

From past experience I know that I tend to have increasingly filthy dreams (sometimes hilariously so) when abstaining from ejaculation.

I've been experimenting again because of this thread.

At the 4-day mark it started. At the 5-day mark, my dreams took me to Japan where there was a public restroom with a private heading just for me "Men's restroom / [Vampiyer's] women." I went in there and had my buffet. It was so funny and ridiculous that I was laughing in the dream.

I'll continue the experiment to the 2-week mark (5 more days). At least I get entertaining dreams.

Also, my girlfriends who have experimented with sex every day with their partners have found an increase in all around mood, but its not always easy--one has to sometimes get the guy in the mood (if he is stressed, or tired). I mean they are guys right, so its not that hard? Well, sometimes guys just want to go to sleep--my theory is that a guy will never refuse oral though, and I like sharing tips (or websites I've found useful) with my girlfriends. I basically can't get enough of my husband and I love being in a state of want.

I find people like Suzanne Somors who talk openly about how they love sex at their age (and she is hot for 64 IMO) inspirational. How she and her husband still have "pheromones" for each other, can't get enough of each other after decades together. I hope to be enjoying life that much when I'm that age!

What a great thread. I just wrote an article about this subject, "Sex and Creativity." There is an interesting link for me between ejaculation and the mind state most conducive to creative work. It's hard for me to work right after orgasm or after a couple days of abstinence. The former cause is a lack of stimulation, while the latter is due to distraction. Generally I find that orgasm in the early afternoon helps create a window in the evening. Whenever I write in the morning I find that it goes much better if I've ejaculated the night before.

The Real Thing™ induces a state of more intense focus and energy for several days. The Manual Override™ can very temporarily clear a distracted mind.

I too have desired to see the side effects of prolonged periods without ejaculation. The only length my willpower allowed the last few years was 4 days. Even just temporary withdrawal of ejaculation grants me increased energy, but also seems to make me more susceptible to a feeling of depression/loneliness.

That's probably your evolution-powered motivation to find a live partner kicking in, a biological discontentment with the status quo, which your usual self-treatment was keeping quiet.

Interesting article. Their dopamine prolactin description definitely explained my teenage days of masturbating 3+ times a day. They do make dopamine and prolactin out to be a bandit though (which they might have been when I was 15). However, into my twenties I have found that I don't have the desire to have sex or masturbate all of the time. I do find that I feel anti-social after sex, I never want to go to parties etc (perhaps an effect of prolactin). Interesting article though, it definitely gives some explanations to what a 'healthy sex life' might look life hormonally.

My experience says that at the age of about 50, attempting anything like 3 ejaculations or more almost daily would be suicidal. One can virtually feel vital life resource cells being depleted after each ejaculation at this elderly age. Of course, this would not be the case during teens. I used to pray to stay away from thinking of sex or ejaculation during those days! No use. My body chemistry would not allow. Now, for the past few years, I have settled down to 2 ejaculations per week the natural way and no masturbating.
After years of brooding on the subject, as many here also mentioned that the frequency depends on many factors, I feel it is best to let nature to control the ejaculation frequency. A good way to allow this is to avoid meddling with natural ejaculation by avoiding consciously manipulating ejaculation during an intercourse (or a masturbation started in a natural urge) and also to avoid routinely attempting to erect when there is no mood.

Interesting theory. Perhaps it could be pinned on something more neurological, perhaps withdrawal symptoms that occur after consistent reward center stimulation.

I know the live partner ultimately trumps the self pleasuring due to the benefits of touch from another human. These effects most likely correlate with the same feeling one gets from acts of nurture, and thus can grant a longer lasting feeling of comfort and security not felt amid the brief release of masturbation.

There is a lot more to consider than some basic number. You've got to evaluate the hotness of the partner, the number of partners, the realistic time frame that you will continue to have the opportunity, etc.

This is assuming you do not disassociate orgasm with ejaculation.

Heh, perhaps we should start a thread discussing whether having multiple extremely attractive daily sex partners has a greater positive effect on life extension and more anti-cancer benefits than regular sex with a single partner. I am only half joking, look at Hugh Hefner. ;)

Well... I made it to something like 4 weeks. Perhaps at the 2-week mark I peaked WRT urges, filthy dreams, etc. I noticed no nootropic effect. I can say that I was sublimating some sexual energy into productive activities, but for the most part it's distracting.

Conclusion: As long as I strike a reasonable balance (probably 2-7 day intervals) then all is well. This requires some level of restraint, but then so do many other things.

Interesting writeup I just came across at http://www.ergo-log....maleorgasm.html

According to this, the answer to the topic question seems to be "at least twice a week". :~

But when the epidemiologists filtered out [lifestyle] factors, the positive relation between orgasm and survival remained. The mortality rate of men who had an orgasm two or more times a week was half that of men who climaxed less than once a month.

On the basis of their results, the British scientists were able to calculate that an increase of 100 orgasms per year reduced the men's chance of dying by 36 percent.

The original study:

Sex and death: are they related? Findings from the Caerphilly Cohort Study.
Davey Smith G, Frankel S, Yarnell J. Department of Social Medicine, University of Bristol.

OBJECTIVE: To examine the relation between frequency of orgasm and mortality. STUDY DESIGN: Cohort study with a 10 year follow up. SETTING: The town of Caerphilly, South Wales, and five adjacent villages. SUBJECTS: 918 men aged 45-59 at time of recruitment between 1979 and 1983. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: All deaths and deaths from coronary heart disease. RESULTS: Mortality risk was 50% lower in the group with high orgasmic frequency than in the group with low orgasmic frequency, with evidence of a dose-response relation across the groups. Age adjusted odds ratio for all cause mortality was 2.0 for the group with low frequency of orgasm (95% confidence interval 1.1 to 3.5, test for trend P = 0.02). With adjustment for risk factors this became 1.9 (1.0 to 3.4, test for trend P = 0.04). Death from coronary heart disease and from other causes showed similar associations with frequency of orgasm, although the gradient was most marked for deaths from coronary heart disease. Analysed in terms of actual frequency of orgasm, the odds ratio for total mortality associated with an increase in 100 orgasms per year was 0.64 (0.44 to 0.95). CONCLUSION: Sexual activity seems to have a protective effect on men's health.

Yeah most guys just want to ejaculate quickly, shoot out the semen, rare occurance when they take hours and thousands of strokes

Ejaculating quickly has its benefits too, but when guys "service" themselves, they should probably take time

No ejaculation = Nootropic like effects
Frequent ejaculation = Benzo like effects

^

This is what you call hitting the nail on the head.

Except for the nootropic like effects come (no pun intended) with all the side effects too :) The irritability is about the same with long abstinence and piracetam.

Right now its maybe once in 14 days due to my depression. I wonder could masturbation have anti-depressive effects?

Anyone know what to eat and not to, to bring back the lust?

I'm 43, I ejaculate only once a month. (i keep logs). I like this, as it keeps me energetic (although a bit obsessed with sex, maybe) I've done it for 15 years.

When I ejaculate more often than this, I get depressed and feel guilty for a few hours, sometimes a day. I think it's a residue of masturbation shame. Also a lot of Taoism reading convinced me of the value of "keeping the seed" I know question all that. It's a new thing for me, but I think the depression/guilt are changing.

I have sex more often than this, but I stop before ejaculating. I enjoy sex a lot, regardless of not having an orgasm that often.

This month I masturbated twice a week and I have not felt any guilt or depression. Most likely all psychological...

I've been experimenting with this... I find it really good to not masturbate for a few days but it becomes really hard to focus on work in front of a computer... If I worked outside my house (at a store or with other people) I would definitely try to keep it up even longer. Anyway I'm doing 5-7 days of no ejaculation, we'll see how it goes.

i think its important to note that the physiological response to ejaculation varies depending on if orgasm is induced by sex or masturbation... i've noted on multiple occasions that after sex i feel energized and after masturbation i feel tired.

I am skeptical about this assertion. I suspect most guys just don't know how to masturbate right.

Actually it is well known that orgasms make men feel tired. It is because of the release of prolactin. Intrestingly some studies have found real sex produces much more prolactin than masturbation

http://www.popsci.co...2/sex-and-sleep

It is also responsible for the loss of libido after sex, and multiple-orgasmic men seem not to release prolactin after orgasm.

http://www.nature.co...l/3900823a.html

Hmm, know of any supplements that suppress prolactin?

Mucuna Pruriens, p-5-p, possibly vitex can all inhibit prolactin
